Just a disagreement here but other than lonsdales the 01s have been great. The '02 vintage are IMHO the best cigars made since 1995.

Just saw this thread for the first time.....
I don't know what the price is on these or if you've pulled the trigger, but don't even bother. Do yourself a favor and get something recent. Went through two boxes of these a few years ago. I thought they were good/ok at the time. In retrospect there is no way I would waste the money again. With VERY FEW exceptions I recommend anyone not experienced enough, stay away from anything from '99-'01. I avoid this period like the plague.... and '02 wasn't so hot either! The only cigars that I have smoked that I have truly enjoyed from this period were some Punch SS#2's from '99 and a CoLa from '99. Everything else has ranged from meh to terrible. For me, smoking through all the garbage has just not been worth the trouble to find the RARE gems.
Also.... be very leary of anyone selling "aged" samplers, or any samplers for that matter, that doesn't list the years of the sticks. If interested, I would definitely find out the years and if there are quite a few or all sticks from '99-'01, then well.... I'm not saying they're trying to unload their shitty unsmokeable cigars on you, but you be the judge. Just speaking from experience. If you have money to burn then go for it but I'll just tell you the odds are not in your favor. Just one that comes to mind was a 6 pack of H Upmann Monarcas from '00 or '01 I bought here a while back, of which I only actually received 5. (Contacted the seller to let him know he was short a stick and said he would take care of me but never heard from him after that.) I'm glad he never sent the other one because the 5 I did receive were dowels... completely unsmokeable. I could go on and on.....

Re: Newboe FYI "sale cigars"
Mcgoospot, I agree in general. Late 01 and early 02 were freakin' fabulous! Mid 99 thru Apr-May 01 had tons of construction issues and were very inconsistent within a box, not just box to box. I had boxes of 99-01 robos (RASS, Choix Supreme, SD4, Punch Punch) that had 20% plugged rates for a ROBO and lonsdales and churchills were even higher.
On the other hand, late 01-early 02 Choix Supreme and Punch Punch rank among the best I've ever had!

Q: Did you leave this theif an appropriate Trader Comment?
Q: Did you contact Phil, (Insight), about resolution &/or the Scumbag List?
Selling poorly constructed cigars is bad form, but charging for six cigars, sending five and ignoring requests to make good on it is scumbag behavior allbeit on a small scale. But then, it's not about the size of the theft, it's the principle of the thing.

1) No, I didn't and I have always been bad with leaving trader's comments.... good, bad or otherwise.
2) When it happened, over 2 years ago, I am pretty sure Phil wasn't responsible for the list, or maybe it was in the transitional phase I can't remember off hand. Either way, no I did not..... and I went back and checked the pm's and the purchase was for seven cigars and he sent six.

The TC system is only as relivent and effective as members make it be. If everyone left accurate TC's I believe there would be much less scumbaggery on this and other boards.

Everyone's tastes vary, but we will certainly have to agree to disagree. I would love to hear others chime in on this just out of curiosity. The sheer prevalence of cigars from '99-'01 available from many vendors in proportion to all other years should be a red flag to any would-be buyers. Add this to the fact that these cigars are more often than not discounted, sometimes deeply discounted, and it doesn't take a genius to figure out that these cigars are not in high demand. But, as the saying goes..... smoke what you like.

This is true but at my "cigar home" on the web we did not have them so at the time I didn't see the importance of them.

I too would have to beg to differ with this. I've smoked non-Lonsdale '01's that were blended incorrectly, and rolled poorly. And while I have smoked some amazing '02's I think, "...best since '95..." is worded a bit too storngly.

I admit that it certainly has its value. I, surely like many others, wish that we didn't need such a system but that's just not the reality of it.

Re: Newboe FYI "sale cigars"
I too try to stay away from cigars from 99-01. However, I have an 01 box of hoyo churchills that are some of the best I've ever smoked. Guess it goes back to the whole 50/50 thing.
