This is for the newbies out there who have not been around long enough to know better. A few years back a Swiss vendor bought up a ton of 1999, 2000 and early 2001 stock. This stuff was sold at prices that were close to 70% off. Boxes of Cuban churchills for $55 each. Unbelievable prices and SOME of the stock was good. Most was crap. A ton of plugged, dried out cigars but at $1-2.00 cigar there were not many complaints.
The point here is that people are now reselling these cigars as if they were good cigars. These cigars were not stored properly for years which was why they were sold so cheaply. They were worth $50/box. They are not worth $300/box.
The best of the bunch IMHO were the RyJ churchills and the hoyo du Rois. The worst were the SLR Churchills, Hoyo Churchills and Punch Chirchills. The DCs were not much better.
Be very Leary about buying these cigars. There is a post over at ICC about these cigars and which were worth the coon and which were not. Caveat emptor.

Thanks for the remindIer! It does seem to me, from FS posts, that there is an everlasting supply of 99-01 sticks. Maybe that is because noobs like me have folks like you helping to keep us from investing in firewood.
Is there a quick link to the ICC thread?

I bought a bunch, like you said many were plugged and I figured that going in, Been happy with the purchase, give a few to people who wanted to try one but wouldn't think of ever selling. shit like you said if 50% were trash still a good yard gar.
I saw some I thought being sold here when I first joined or became active but probably got it mixed up.

Just saw this thread for the first time.....
I don't know what the price is on these or if you've pulled the trigger, but don't even bother. Do yourself a favor and get something recent. Went through two boxes of these a few years ago. I thought they were good/ok at the time. In retrospect there is no way I would waste the money again. With VERY FEW exceptions I recommend anyone not experienced enough, stay away from anything from '99-'01. I avoid this period like the plague.... and '02 wasn't so hot either! The only cigars that I have smoked that I have truly enjoyed from this period were some Punch SS#2's from '99 and a CoLa from '99. Everything else has ranged from meh to terrible. For me, smoking through all the garbage has just not been worth the trouble to find the RARE gems.
Also.... be very leary of anyone selling "aged" samplers, or any samplers for that matter, that doesn't list the years of the sticks. If interested, I would definitely find out the years and if there are quite a few or all sticks from '99-'01, then well.... I'm not saying they're trying to unload their shitty unsmokeable cigars on you, but you be the judge. Just speaking from experience. If you have money to burn then go for it but I'll just tell you the odds are not in your favor. Just one that comes to mind was a 6 pack of H Upmann Monarcas from '00 or '01 I bought here a while back, of which I only actually received 5. (Contacted the seller to let him know he was short a stick and said he would take care of me but never heard from him after that.) I'm glad he never sent the other one because the 5 I did receive were dowels... completely unsmokeable. I could go on and on.....

Q: Did you leave this theif an appropriate Trader Comment?
Q: Did you contact Phil, (Insight), about resolution &/or the Scumbag List?
Selling poorly constructed cigars is bad form, but charging for six cigars, sending five and ignoring requests to make good on it is scumbag behavior allbeit on a small scale. But then, it's not about the size of the theft, it's the principle of the thing.
