I own a number of boxes of 03 DD petacas. Id love to get them out of the petacas and into a 50 cab or two. I’ve gladly told sellers they can write something on the bottom of the cab to assuage any concerns of funny business. All I care about is getting the sticks out of cardboard and into a better storage situation.

After 15 years in cardboard, it may be too late now. Alot of longtime smokers remove them from 5packs upon arrival for aging, and aging them in cardboard for that long may have already imparted some undesirable flavors. I personally don't age anything in cardboard, but I also don't buy many sticks in cardboard packaging. I hope your DDs are ok...
I don't have any DD boxes, but if you are looking for some empty cabs from other marcas, I have a few I can send your way.

I can't think of any legitimate reason to iso a cuban empty box other then for some sort of messed up reasons. Just looking for a reason that gives me hope it is not a scam of some sort when I see this.

Just stumbled upon this thread and can see that it might relate to my recent iso certain cohiba boxes even though this original thread is from 2016 . Then answer is simple. I have purchased several El's recently from Dallas and Johnny o and just want to store them in the correct boxes nothing else.

Exactly why! I posted elsewhere years ago looking for Cohiba boxes to store "other stuff" (Fivers and Singles because they kept getting banged up loose) in. If varnished is where Cuba puts its best stuff that's where I wanted to put mine.
Recently been putting the Johnny O EL stuff in them. Then took them out when the aging drawers finally got installed.

I collect boxes for storage of cigars, keeping other things, and also my smoking room.
I find the art work extraordinary at times, cannot stand all the new stickers/warnings, etc.
Boxes are something else to collect and make great gifts to hold smokes for fellow cigar lovers. also they are better than a gift bag for other items when gift giving to a non-cigar smoker.
just my .02
