Really?  Go ahead and make a claim for cuban cigars, show a receipt to them and see what happens.  If I am wrong, I will be happy that you are right.

Tobacco license?? The USPS permits the shipping of cigars domestically so, if the package is insured and the USPS guidelines (proof of insurance, value and the transaction details), filing a claim for a lost package of NC cigars should have a favorable result.

You can ship and insure cigars in the US, but good luck filing a claim for cuban cigars which are illegal.

lol, ryan. if you are making a claim for a LOST package - how in the world does the USPS know you shipped cuban cigars? They Don't.  Just give them proof of purchase of NCs and you are fine.  If the package is damaged, then yes it causes a problem because the USPS likes to inspect the damage before paying claims.

Well there you go.  You are okay with lying.  If caught lying, you could be charged as a felon.  I'm not okay doing that.  Glad you proved me wrong.

If caught buying cuban cigars, you can be hit with 10k in civil penalties (we know it does not happen anymore).... and you draw the line at a usps claim form?

It's happened to me on a couple of occasions.
Because I usually need my stuff shipped internationally I take full responsibility for any lost goods. If it's a larger order (and the seller is reasonable) I will normally ask for a 50% refund. That way we are both equally out of packet

Unless I had an agreement with the seller I wouldn't think of asking him to split the loss of a customs confiscation. If the buyer takes that risk it his responsibility.

I once sent a package to Australia and it got picked up by customs, the guy paid duty on it, and when it was on its way to be delivered the driver of the truck got into a wreck and the truck was engulfed in flames. It seems like driver actually died too iirc. Was a really strange situation. The only time one of my packages has been intercepted, but there was no doubt that I sent it.

Customs isn't anecessarily issue here
If they catch you, they send you a bill and you pay it. If you don't they return th package to the sender.
Its more a case of when you ship a package though 3 different ports there is more a chance of it getting lost somewhere along the way.

I don't think it's fair to expect the seller to wear the loss of missing package but on the same token it's not fair for me to wear a loss as well. A 50/50 spilt is the only way nobody looses
