I read few threads on BZ, where couple of packages are lost in the mail. So far, I have been very lucky that I never had a lost package outgoing or incoming, but I wonder what would I do if something is lost?
Who is responsible for lost packages - the sender or the receiver?
If an insurance must be bought, who should pay the fees? And, what would be the insurance on? I doubt cigar are valid.
What do you think?

Re: Who is responsible for lost packages?
Well speaking from a previous experience I had sold someone two boxes of cigars for around 500.00. I sent them usps and they never received them. They were lost in the system. I reimbursed the buyer the full amount and usps sent me a check for 100.00. They seller responsible to make it right if anything happens.

Seller/ shipper all the way. I always insure anything above $100, for this reason. I sent a 5 pack of Anejo a few years back, and didnt insure. The package never made it and I made good. Thats the way it should be done.

As an online retailer (coffee), one time powerseller on eBay and human who plays well with others, I make right sales and then work it out on my end.
This is the only way to keep customers. They are hard to come by and I treat them well.

Great coffee, cigars and whiskey. Love them all.

Re: Who is responsible for lost packages?
IMHO:
As the seller it is your responsibility to make sure the package arrives. The only way it becomes the buyers responsibility is if you require insurance to be paid by the buyer and he waives.
Many people sell items with shipping included. If you do it is your responsibility to insure the package and purchase a signature confirmation. If you don't, you as a seller are taking a chance of being ripped off by a buyer claiming he never received anything.
When you consider these things you will realize how important it is to deal with reputable buyers and sellers and also pay a few dollars more to ensure some type of safety measure when the buyer/seller is unknown.

Ok Guys, I always thought that if I ship with delivery confirmation, I am in the clear. From now on, I will ask the buyer to buy insurance, if he wants to.
How about the question asked above: If the delivery confirmation says it is delivered, and the buyer says he didn't receive it. Who is responsible?
