Atabey Cigars now here in Thornbury. Wow they are stunning.
Are you guys familiar/fond of Atabey Cigars? The designer of the boxes …
“Nelson Alfonso is the creative director for the Golden Age design firm which has handled the branding for Habanos, S.A. cigars. In addition, he was the designer behind Padron’s 50th Anniversary humidor. Alfonso is also a gifted cigar blender and founder of Atabey Cigars. Elegantly encased in glass tubes and packaging that is collector worthy, the Atabey cigar sports a beautiful Ecuadorian wrapper and Nicaraguan binder and filler for a mild to medium-bodied smoke. The Atabey has a pleasing floral base that is accented by a sweet and salty note.”
I am about to smoke these tonight for birthday smokes with friends. Others have been 520’s, 1966’s, LE’s of several kinds but much less than some of you guys I am sure.
These are pretty interesting so thought I would share. Feel free to give your reviews:-)

Happy Birthday
I’ve had a few of these and a couple Byrons, although enjoyable the price is a big turn off. This is the first I’ve heard they use Nicaraguan tobaccos - I thought it was undisclosed and speculated to be Costa Rican or Honduran grown Cuban seed.
I held onto the tubos they came in, they are really freakin cool design.

Fantastic info and your impression about what you thought it would be is amazing.
I am here at the smoking place. I brought the box in the photo above, two Casa Fuente Robustos and two vintage Padron torpedoes from a box signed by the family.
I shall report.

So the Atabey, we both agreed, needs lots of age. We threw them one third gone into the fire. I lit up the vintage Padron torpedo (fantastic!). Friend lit up a Casa Fuente and he said, “Now we’re talkin’”. When Mr Beaver returns on Friday night from Boston, he can choose whatever he wants.
So phew. Smoke is grand now.

Very well made, beautiful, and decent flavor, but not even close to worth what they charge for them.

Hoping a couple of years in the wine fridge will make them wonderful. But totally agree on that price issue. They are Behikes of NC, and no coincidence since same guy designed them perhaps.

I'm surprised you felt they needed time down, the ones I smoked were well rested at 6 months but otherwise they tasted like they were well matured.
