Alexd1117

Im writing this to warn others of Alex D's shady tactics. Before you say "why did you wait 2 years?"...well the answer is simple, he didnt technically steal from me, so there was no reason to report it to the FB admins. I called him out privately and said I didnt appreciate what he did, and he played dumb. Then he pops up here recently. And before anyone wants to make this about me, let it be known I have never ripped anyone off, nor lied to anyone. Im a younger generation, and while I can appreciate a good hustle, I dont believe in lying to someone on the internet to make a dollar.

In the winter of 2017 I met Alex D through a FB group and he offered to gimme the hookup on some Viaje. He offered to go to his local, and get me a bunch of stuff for MSPR and his discount. All I had to do was send him a nice package, which I didnt mind doing. I have always taken care of people who helped me out. He told me the total was $860, plus tax and shipping, and that he couldnt gimme a receipt. Call me dumb but I figured he was friends with the owner and the owner didnt want discount info passed around. Ive seen it before in retail and what not. So I paid him, got my cigars, and was happy.

A day or two later a mutual friend reached out to me letting me know the name of the shop and that Alex was a scumbag who had been known for shady tactics. I call the shop, and sure enough...he made probably $200 off me. Had he told me since the stuff was HTF, there would be an upcharge, I would not have cared. But we talked on the phone while there, and he told me what the prices were(which was a lie), and the deal was a favor for a favor. I contacted Alex privately and he basically played dumb and told me a bunch of bull.

Take it as you want. But if you tell me we something is one price,  and its another, thats a lie. He made plenty of money off me, and still had the nads to expect a gift in return. Not cool.

Different folks have different standards as to what they consider a scumbag.

My take on this is he quoted you a price and you accepted. That is the same as an old timey handshake. He provided you the goods for the price and you was happy. Happy until another individual, for whatever reason, decided to inform you that you had been had.

Whatever the motivation for someone to stick their beak in your transaction, the reality here is that you were happy to pay him what he asked. Yeah, it was a dickhead move for him to lie about it rather than being straight, but by your admission, he really didn’t steal from you.

I do split buys all the time. I can tell you that I don’t generally make it a rule to profit off my friends, but I expect a small stipend when going through the trouble to acquire the sticks and then chase down the money. That little stipend is normally 7%, not hardly enough to matter but it has covered my ass when someone stiffs me which is rare but happens.

In the case you lay out, it appears he used, or maybe abused a connection to get you cigars that cannot be found elsewhere. I would expect an individual to secure a small profit for acquiring said rarities. But I do wonder if vendor is aware he is profiteering off his discount.

I fully understand you being miffed that he lied to you or misled you into thinking this was the price plus shipping. I would too. But I would’ve chalked this up to a lesson learned not to deal with him again. In the end, you still acquired some good finds at a price you agreed to and could live with and you would not have known otherwise had it not been for someone else for whatever reason decided to involve themselves in your transaction.

Quoting me a price...and telling me something cost a certain price is different. He didnt say "ten of these will cost you this much". What he said was "the store has this many for this much. I will do you the favor of getting them for you for this cost". He used his local discount...and made a profit off of me by lying to me. Simple as that. I do appreciate your perspective though, honest.

He did get you your cigars. A+
He did lie to you. F

It does have a slimy feel to it. Just like your mutual acquaintance did not need to share his knowledge, the person doing the favor also did not need to lie in the first place. Your mutual acquaintance gained your trust, the seller gained a few bucks, you gained knowledge. The dollars, I’m sure, are long spent, the trust and knowledge will last as long as your memory serves you.

Thanks for sharing.
