Buyer beware

Post by WadeFillingame »

Just a reminder guys, this is the season for scams.  OK, they happen all the time, but with the seasonal releases it gets worse, and I've approved a fair number of new users in the last few months.

Don't get burned.    :bait:

:nana:

Just some thoughts and ideas from other places.  One of the things that guys on shooting BBs do is to get proof that someone has an item if it's high value. High end optics run in the range of $2000, other stuff is often in the same range of the boxes traded here.

If the seller isn't known to you:

Get people to send a current picture of the item, with the date on a piece of paper in the pic to prove it's real.

Another is to always get a phone number and call to talk to the person you are buying from.

Verify the address.  I know a lot of people, myself included have used drop boxes, but it's another step in the process to protect yourself.

Lastly, don't use F&F, don't be a putz and pay the 3.5%.  If you don't you have zero recourse if you use PP.  Yea, you aren't supposed to use it in the first place for cigars, and they're going to suspend your acct, but you might get your $$ back.

Yeah, yeah I'm the Putz that hates the 3.5%. Another thing that I do is a search of the person/addy to see if they match up. There is a real estate agent in California that has packages sent to empty houses he listed, gets his package and never pays. You cant always get matching info but most of the time you can. That is sleazy, I'd hate to think I was trusting someone like that with a transaction the size of a realestate purchase... wow.

Assuming he tells his CC, Bank, or Pp that he didn’t receive the package and they refund.

I remember the days when you’d ship and I’d send a check. Shame that the scumbags ruined that. Side note: I still have some of those cigars from ‘05, and they are EXCELLENT !

I still take checks from FOGs. Just took one a couple weeks ago.
Be sure and make deposits in all areas of your life, because at some point you will need to make a withdraw. No deposits are more important than those made in relationships.

You are fucking moron that as a seller you do not get full payment upfront. If you sellers did that there would be no need for these useless threads; especially with the forums local shit scammer in this thread. Mr O, out.
