I figured it is prohibited here just like everywhere else but I can't find that in writing anywhere. Just curious since there several loose lips in a certain TSBC thread right now...

Re: Discussing sources
I concur! Discussion of sources in open forum is just bad all around. I removed my topic in which some discussion started. Thanks for the help on the GM's Leo! You made my day
Crazy how it feels tonight
Crazy how you make it all alright love
Crush me with the things you do
And I do for you anything too
Sitting smoking feeling high
And in this moment it feels so right

Thanks for removing the topic- No, there isn't a rule about it posted here, but c'mon. This is just common sense. You don't name sources out in the open.

How would like it to be handled, when someone slips up? A simple PM? Friendly reply in that thread, reminding that person not to discuss sources?
You don't really see this too much here, because if you know of this site, you're fairly familiar with the online cigar market and already know these things.
With todays post in mind, I saw it as just one BOTL trying to help another in his search. Granted, it would have been better just to send a PM, but I don't think there was any intentional harm done.
Either way, it'd be nice to know a standard as to how to deal with this when it arises.

Re: Discussing sources
You're right, RyJ, sources aren't much of an issue here. I think a friendly reply in any thread mentioning sources is a good idea, and really, the more friendly reminders, the better. And a friendly PM to the member in question is a good idea, too. There are sooo many new members here, and I'm sure not all of them are educated as to board etiquette, and especially sources in regards to CC's. I'm sure that no one ever means any harm in regards to this. Its just one member looking to help another member. But the road to hell is paved with good intentions. <-- you knew that was coming, didn't you? ;D
For the rest of us who don't know any better:
The best rule of thumb? If a member has a question about a source, a CC source, that member should use the PM system, and ask another member directly. It can't be any simpler than that. Just keep it off the board.
As to why we shouldn't post names of sources, any member here can do a search at ANY of the other cigar boards that they found before finding OLH. In a nutshell, its pretty obvious: its illegal to purchase CC's in the US, and none of us wants to lose a reliable source. If someone posts a source, the rest of us risk losing that source. As well as all the other legal ramifications, which you can search elsewhere.
The bottom line is, DON'T POST CC SOURCES. Not names, not abbreviated names, not pet names that someone may have developed for a source. Don't post CC sources. Period.
:horse: apparently, its not dead yet. :) :horse:

A friendly PM is much better. Friendly replys are flawed in two ways
- they bring the topic to the top, thus more views.
- the poster of the source info may never visit the thread again therefore never getting the headsup to remove the source post.

Then it's settled and we've figured a way to handle this, shall it ever arise!
Funny story.........when I first started getting serious about cigars, I did an online search for cigar forums and the first site that came up was CP. Can you guess what my inaugural post was about? Can you guess the shit-storm I quickly found myself in?? Wasn't quite the welcoming I was expecting, but DEFINITELY a lesson learned!

Haha. Yea I never got the complete bashing of a newbie. It's completely contradictory of what we are trying to accomplish; brotherhood. There is a certain forum that IMO seems very standoff-ish and it seems newbies must kiss ass and send out bombs to be accepted.
