Donations...

Post by skfr518 »

As much as I like this site and have donated to it in the past, I am saddened to see that we can't get the donations updated since April of 2015.  Personally I am more likely to do deals with people who contribute to the site and I think it is fair to acknowledge those who help keep the site going.

I get what you're saying Brad. The reality is there has been a lot going on for our Admin. Sometimes what we think is a trivial task to accomplish is actually rather daunting after a while. Life deals us cards and I think right now, OLH is at the bottom of the deck.
Real life situations come up and priorities get realigned. I got faith Wade will get it handled sooner than later.
Be sure and make deposits in all areas of your life, because at some point you will need to make a withdraw. No deposits are more important than those made in relationships.

Just a note- if it is going to be updated a notice would be great - some of us might donate if we knew in advance  ;)

I completely understand that this is a hobby for the admin and not their full time job.  However if you are going to ask people to donate money to support the site then I feel that two years is a bit long for any kind of update.  If it was updated a little more often maybe you would get more donations as well.  Just food for thought.  And yes I have sent a couple PMs to the admin asking about it and never heard a peep.

Hah! What a joke, only donating because you believe it will aid you in your selling endeavors. What an embarrassing, pathetic, and selfish gesture.

Many users, myself included, have often donated despite the fact that we have never sold a thing here. Specifically because we enjoy and appreciate the opportunity this site gives us to purchase and share an eclectic selection of sticks.

It is a shame OLH is also home to many that are unappreciative of the aforementioned privileges our host provides.

I'm going to offer a little explanation because I think I owe a little something.  How ever, as always, if you don't like the way I run the place you are welcome to stay away.  It is a free internet, and I don't run any code that makes this into your homepage.  If you have questions about donations supporting the site, well, it' still here isn't it?

Two yrs ago I was working on a project that kept me out of town on the road 50% of the time, 3 weeks home, 3 weeks out.  This was in addition to my regular work load tht can and does make me travel.  At the time I lived in TN in a 3000sq foot, 4BR house with a 3 car garage.  My wife's career took her to a job in Boston.  My house went up for sale.  I was still working half time in StL, trying to get a house sold, and every few months get up to New England to see my wife and kids.

May of last yr the house sold.  I ended up with my stuff scattered in 4 states, still traveling, and trying to figure out how to live in an 1100 sq foot apartment.  My tower computer where all of my OLH records are kept off line was (and is) put into a storage unit in TN, six months ago we moved again to New Hampshire.  I still have to travel for work.  Just for purposes of illustration; most recently I was home one week a month in Oct, Nov, Dec and Jan, I was home for the 4th of July weekend from early June till mid August.

At the same time this site became more of a PITA than a hobby.  First dealing with Taps running amok and then with the whole smokinceegars mess I can honestly say that for the first time since I resurrected the site a dozen yrs ago I was ready to pull it down.

Now the way that donation status works is that I have to sort through the PP donations notice emails, go into the OLH registration, sort by email, and account for donations at a time, one of the problems here is and has been that all of the downloaded emails and records are on the computer that is in storage in TN, and now the job is going to take hours because it's so far behind.

This site is not one of my priorities.  I committed to myself, and without saying so to the community to keep up up and running a long time ago.  It isn't going anywhere.

I'm typing all this with my left hand in a cast, I had surgery to install a plate and screws to repair a shattered wrist this week.   (56yo guys who have been skiing their whole lives should really consider not trying to learn to snowboard...  just say no)

I'll get to it.  Even my wife is giving me grief over it at this point.

Wade - thank you for your efforts and I hope you get better soon.

Have you considered getting one or two moderators assigned to help you with running the site?

Moderation is for the most part easy.  Taps, smokinceegars and TL have been the only real issues here at the site that I recall, and of those the only one that was truly a mod issue was Taps. (my fault for letting him dance as long as I did) Usually I just ban anyone who is an issue and there is no more issue.  If I think they may be trying to come back as a sock puppet I just quit approving new members for a couple of months for things to cool off.

Some reliable, and trustworthy people have offered help.  The issue with donations is that the info isn't on the site.  It is PP confirmations to me in email form that have to be reconciled against the account registry on the site.  I'm not prepared to let anyone else have access to all peoples donation and PP info from the emails.
