Any truth to this!

Post by LAWDOG »

Just read this on another board any truth to this."Beginning January 1st, regulations in Switzerland were enacted that increased by orders of magnitude the fines a vendor would have to pay if they were caught inaccurately describing the contents of packages on their Customs Declaration form".

As a result, Swiss habanos vendors have been forced to write "cigars" on the Customs Declaration form...which seems to have significantly increased seizures during the past month or two

I have a few friends who have confirmed this and I had a package arrive recently that had this. I could barely make out the handwriting, probably intentional. This makes me really nervous going forward.

Waiting to see how this comes out.  I've talked to people who said that the dec said  "CIGARS" and I've seen some since then that were scribble.

I actually noticed this on a box before I read about the new law. so needless to say, it was surprising to see "cigars" written on the shipping sticker.

They used to write "humidor accessories" which I guess isn't technically lying, lol  ;D

Reports seem to be coming in all over the map.  Cigars, cigars in a foreign language, neatly written, scribbled etc.  Seems that just about anything goes, but none of it is good!

Not just the Swiss vendors, any vendor using Swiss Post... :gotcha:

My fingers are crossed.  I am expecting a delivery, and my vendor says it has been shipped and accepted, but they did use Swiss Post, and it's taking ALOT longer than normal to receive.  I think I may have gotten nailed this time.

i've gotten in four boxes thru swiss post and all have been clearly labeled cigars.
not sure if it has been luck or looking the other way by customs.
either way i got all of them in before i knew about the new law.
i guess i am torn.  i am apprehensive about the new law but results speak for themselves.
your mileage may vary.
