OLH is resident on a shared server with Startlogic. It doesn't make sense for me to pay for a virtual private server (VPS) because the way this site runs it doesn't use much of the unlimited bandwidth that I have, and it takes very little of the effectively huge storage that I'm allowed. This isn't redtube, I don't need that much space or bandwidth.
It seems that this weekend someone at StartLogic ran a report, I think they screwed the pooch on the report parameters, because they showed that OLH sent 642 emails in a rolling one hour period. But the snippet of the report they sent me showed emails generated by another site. The only activity here was one registration notification and 42 PM notifications.... in a 7 hour period. I think what happened is that someone ran a report on the whole server and I got credit for everyone's emails. Can't prove it, but including the log from another site in the original message to me makes me think that's what happened.
Now comes the 15 round fight.
I could not get StartLogic to provide me with the log showing the spam. I kept getting responses to my replies on the support ticket that said..."fix the spam script and we'll turn your site back on".
I got two emails with the same snip of log, with the same 42 emails in 7 hours...
Three phone calls to tech support, (they are actually in the US, so they speak English), but the phone guys are a a level or two below the guys who can actually change anyting. I lost count of the ticket updates and requests for information, none of which ever resulted in a log showing that OLH generated the volume of email that shut it down, and after 30 minutes on the phone tonight.... the guy on the phone tonight finally says: "I think you're right"
I feel like I have been in a fight, and if I was feeling honest I should put today down as a vacation day, because I didn't get squat done at work.
Sorry for the outage.
Wade

Thank you for your efforts. We appreciate it.
Be sure and make deposits in all areas of your life, because at some point you will need to make a withdraw. No deposits are more important than those made in relationships.

I'm glad it's back up. I was hoping it wasn't anything too serious that would result in a long shut down. Would have went through olh withdrawal :)

Maybe Scotty touching himself and not washing his hands gave the site a virus. ;D
