From the Party Source website:
Here it is, the long awaited so-called corn whiskey from Smooth Ambler's Old Scout label, selected by The Party Source from a single barrel and bottled uncut and unfiltered. Never has a traditionally styled corn whiskey been so treated (props to my pal Chip Tate at Balcones, who has for some time now bottled his superb barrel proof blue corn whiskey, True Blue). Distilled at DSP-IN-1 in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, this rates as the finest traditional corn whiskey I've ever had. It is beautifully balanced, with scrumptious oak seasoning and shading overlying a sweet and pure core of grain, notes of vanilla and wood spice, and a savory, patient finish. The mouthfeel is wonderful, too, a ripe and fulsome caress again nicely balanced between corn grain and oak stave, making it hard to put the bottle down. It's best with water; the full strength dram exhibits elevated tannin, and splash of water really ties it all together. It is of unknown age, but tastes perfectly matured for this style of whiskey. I should like to beat the drum a bit for American corn whiskey, long overshadowed by it's more famous—typically more flavorsome—cousin. (That would be Bourbon.) We are pleased and honored to offer it to you, dear whiskey drinker. -Jay Erisman

Neat: Hot, one dimensional. Corn liquor, 125.9 proof. Minimal oak, vanilla. Hints of caramel.
On a rock: Mellows a bit, becomes quite tasty as it dilutes. Reminiscent of caramel corn, tannic

Cocktail: Manhattan variant, 2 oz whiskey, 1 oz Picon, stir with ice and strain into a chilled coupe.
This begins to shine, this stuff is ideal for a cocktail. The barrel proof stands up to the bitter sweetness of the amaro. Excellent in a cocktail!

I would like to try to pass out on the floor also. That drink looked like it was quite tasty. I am too simple of a person. I like whiskey with ice, or beer. I do make killer sazarac's during the cooler months, but that is as exotic as I can get. You guys are one of a kinds. Everyone here think's we are normal, but society in general don't understand our lust for the important things in life like "enjoyable bliss"! By enjoyable bliss, I'm talking about something as simple as an excellent cigar, a nice cocktail, or anything else that brings joy and relaxation. Us guys here lust for this stuff, while the rest of the world just sits and watches. Thank's for showing this community this find!

Re: Smooth Ambler Old Scout "Corn Whiskey" Party Source Private bottling
Tried this neat and on the rocks tonight. Neat, it reminded me a lot of the corn whiskey that Cadillac Doc aged himself, so I am guessing this spent about 4 years in oak. It smelled strongly of alcohol and corn sweetness. Very hot and viscous from the corn's sugar content. Still hot on the palate with some spice from the oak. Sweet corn on the finish.
On the rocks, the nose opened up a lot. It mellowed the alcohol and brought out some vanilla. This was still very viscous and was probably still around 100 proof. More vanilla, caramel and just a bit of oak now... The sweet corn finish still persists. This was definitely better with some water or ice than on the rocks.
I have not tried it in a cocktail yet.
It is an interesting spirit and a good example of a corn whiskey, but I would not reach for it ahead of other whiskey.
