98 Fundadores value?

Post by Chargerfan »

Theoretically, if I was able to secure some 1998 Trini Fundadores from a LCDH, what would the value for a single/fiver aftermarket?  Yes, old school gold bands.

I was able to pick some up, but had to buy the box. I jumped, as Im not sure if I would have the opportunity again. These would only be a special occasion stick, so I figured Id put up a few for others to try. No idea what value to put though...

I may also accept trade offers, so I guess the value would be the same.  When I do put em up, I dont want to look like a D-bag.

If you bought them recently at a LCDH then I'd say you should list them for what you paid for them
I recently picked up a couple of 10+ year old boxes from a LCDH
If ever wanted to sell them I'd only want to recoup my costs or trade them for something equal value or equal age

That being said, if you bought them in 1999 and stored them for all this time you would be within your rights to ask for a slight premium due to the time you had to invest in aging them yourself

"Slight premium" ? '98 Fundadores sell IMMEDIATELY @ $600+ all day any day. I've seen $700 paid by a VERY happy buyer. That being said, I'd venture to say that most "old band" Fundadores sold as '98 singles are more likely '01-'03s. Not saying that's the case here, but provenance is difficult with only a band style as reference. There are lots of '02  Fundadores sitting in shops in '98 boxes :)

'98 Fundadores in 50 cabs go for around $1500.

Hmmm interesting.  I wonder if this is the reason I have had no luck with these.  But, then that would mean that an LCDH is knowingly selling something they know not to be the real thing.

Here's a couple pics. The box was found in the habanos regional distributor warehouse, and the box was in rough shape. The distributor contacted habanos SA, and they were put into cardboard boxes. Not sure if this was the cheapest way chosen or what. There are no date codes anywhere, and the seal has an XX, which I just learned Habanos issues on a reinspected box? You all may know more than I. Sticks look great.

FYI, the 98 was confirmed, and reconfirmed by the LCDH manager, who has dealt with numerous individuals repeated times amongst the online community, and is pretty trustworthy.

As far as value goes I recently paid $1100 for a cab of '99 "El Dante" however the original box was shipped and the provenance with solid as a rock.

I removed them from the cardboard sleeves and placed in a Monte Especiales box, which can be seen in the pics.

No boxes with codes there is no way to prove these are from 1998.  Then given the large number of later year cigars placed in '98 boxes, no way would I pay a premium for these.  That is just me.  There has been too many locations coming up with hidden boxes of '98 Fundys.  Sorry.
