Know what you're selling...

Post by grateful1 »

"Sealed box of Tatuaje Federal 90th Reserva  (OR) $500 shipped (i went through a lot to get my hands on that box! Its only one of 50 ever made, and was a shop only purchase (I live in GA remember...) Halfwheel gave this stick a 94 rating at the time, and in my opinion they've only gotten better!
(You think the Hassell (v2) is rare, think again!)"

....100 boxes...iirc - a 'few' more were found.
And HW gave them a 93 ;)

While we're at it...when did Halfwheel become the new CA?

I disagree with the folks who are critical of Halfwheel. Don't we need more of these types of cigar sites? I agree with their reviews about 30% of the time, but I appreciate the input. Jeez man, some of you guys need to take a deep breath.

I really enjoy HW and the reviews.  Brooks and Charlie are good people.  I find the reviews to be pretty spot on with my smoking experiences.

However, I do understand how some reviews (not just a HW thing, but reviews in general) seem to get a bit over-the-top with flavor descriptions.  But hey, I have no idea what the reviewer can and cannot taste.  Some folks do have a more refined palate.

As for the Tat Fed 90th Reserva...  $20 a stick...  Hey, everyone's palate is different :)

I'm not very fond of review bloggers (The ones I can't stand are video reviews - Like I want to watch a grown man pucker his lips for 30 minutes talking about every little thing he tastes. LOL).

But HW is one of the better ones.

With that said, I typically completely avoid their review and ratings and just stick the factual info.  They do put good effort to keep that as accurate as possible.

One thing I've noticed in general about bloggers is that they tend to be bandwagon fans.  Rarity and price influence the ratings too much.  Most of them will jock PJ and his infinite releases (pun intended).  Slowly being replaced by LP.  Some great sticks from Fuente, EPC, etc. don't get any love.  PJ tweets a blurry phone pic of an existing stick with a slightly higher priming and it's an instant hit.

And speaking of CA, don't believe everything you read on blogs.  A lot of them get free smokes - A LOT of free smokes.  At a minimum, they are going to give a stick an 89 just to avoid cutting off their source and source of advertising, so they are about as trustworthy reviews as CA.  Another reason why I avoid review blogs.

I don't know too much about blogs  being I am quite new to the cigar world. I started smoking about two years ago. I fell in love with Half Wheel because of the updated news and information they put out. I also do like the reviews that they give, helps me understand my own taste, while keeping an open mind. I see what other people are saying here though.
