Gift option for PP!

Post by grateful1 »

I've seen more requests from sellers wanting payment this way.

Here's what was said a few years ago:

You have zero chance of getting a gift back, you have possible recourse if you did a straight up payment, but be really clear on this, if ** finds out that you are using your acct to sell or buy tobacco related products they will permanently close your acct, end of story.  They are brutal about it. I know guys who have had their accts closed for selling humidors.  If you let them get a whiff of tobacco it's over.

BTW, I noticed yesterday that they have eliminated the myriad of choices listing why you were sending money.  No more "gift","other", etc.  It has been simplified it to two choices:

What are you sending money for?
- I'm paying for goods or services.
- I'm sending money to family or friends

The new feature then informs you of what fees you will incur once you select a choice.

Yea...I just noticed that today as well. I doubt it, but maybe the info has changed.

The main issue is ...'gift or payment owed' options don't allow for any buyer recourse, should something not work out.

It used to be that PP prohibited its use for all tobacco transactions.  The policy stated:
"Under the Acceptable Use Policy, PP may not be used to purchase or sell tobacco, including cigarettes, cigars, and smokeless tobacco, due to the many difficulties inherent in assuring that tobacco sales comply with applicable laws. Furthermore, you may not engage in the sale of goods or products that facilitate the sale of tobacco using PP, as the underlying good is prohibited."

Now I don't see that on the site anymore (unless I'm missing it.)  What I do see is the following, less restrictive language:

"You may not use the PP service for activities that:
1.violate any law, statute, ordinance or regulation.

5.violate applicable laws or industry regulations regarding the sale of (a) tobacco products, or (b) prescription drugs and devices."

So it appears that transactions with NC cigars would be OK?

I noticed that.

It's this that leaves the door open:
2.relate to transactions involving (a) narcotics, steroids, certain controlled substances or other products that present a risk to consumer safety,

That's pretty broad!

Either way, have you heard....there's no claim option for the GIFT option!

I think the change is because PP has branched out beyond Ebay and into stores.

There were some guys on CF a few yrs back that had their accts frozen over posts regarding the sale of cigars and PP.

It appears that there has been a change but back when I set this site up they were aggressive anti tobacco; someone gave me a list of the IPs that PP used from their offices to access the internet, all of those IPs (it's 2 pages) are blocked on this site.  I do what I can.
