Just don't get it

Post by mcgoospot »

Guys buy 10 packs of RA Grandes for $200, spend $40+ on 1966s but you try to sell an absolute classic discontinued cigar like the '02 Partagas lonsdale for $30 you get no takers. Makes no sense to me. The Party lonsdales from '02-03 are some of the best cigars made in the past 15 years. 11 years of age, classic shape and dabbed for the entire time. Who knows?  Maybe I just love them more than others.

Sell them as the "Tatuaje Frank Partagas '02s" -- Guarantee you'll get 17 pms in less than 5 minutes.

In all honesty though, some people hunt for big names, and can neglect some rare gems. We've all done it at times, but hell if I had the cash I'd pick 'em up. Sadly, too rich for my blood -- haha.

Personally $30 is tough for me to spend on A cigar, BUT to a lot of posers the second band or a Cohiba band =status. You have a plain old Partagas band on them. Dont agree just giving my .02 feel free to give me back change
I'm not so young or impressionable anymore, but still younger than most of you old hags-LOL

Some of the best cigars that I have ever had were $6 - $10 aged habanos that were lovingly cared for.

Personally, I don't consider aged Habanos to be worth the premium they sometimes command. Maybe a buck or two above current cost, but $30 for a Party Lonsdale? You're right, you would really have to LOVE that cigar. Seriously, that's a $10-12 cigar at best, unless it's from the 80s maybe.

Yep, I think it comes down to perceived value.  Psychologically, I think it's much easier for someone to buy a $35-$40 cigar at current value like the 1966 where prices/value can go still go up over the years vs an aged cigar that is 3 times the msrp.  I'm sure a lot of people realize that Party Lonsdale is a great cigar, but to some people that's 3 times what they should cost.  Versus paying msrp for an EL, Cohiba at that.

Nothing against your sale as I almost bit, but I think there's some psychological/subconscious things at play when seeing the price of an aged cigar... some people can't handle the mark-up.

Just my opinion...

Yea, they'd probably turn their noses up at my '95 Lucis (very few left) but then again, I'm not selling.

Not many cigars I am looking to drop $30 a stick on.  I can enjoy life at a lower level.  The bigger issue is buying that kind of stuff here.  Way too many fakes and scumbags here.  I better know the person I am dealing with for that kind of coin.  It is too easy to fake dates.  Now if it was coing from some big Yankee fan in NJ via SI, I am in.  ;)
