I'm pretty torn with this one, but it does make some sense.

1.  At 12, you're too young to sign the papers anyway, so parentals end up bying the bike anyway, so they can do as they see fit as far as letting the kids ride.

2.  I think all riders should take a class and 12 is a good age to make it mandatory to ride.  I didn't have small bikes, but my kids road sleds much younger than 12.

3.  I think there are much bigger issues to worry about and the government should stop telling us how to parent.  Darwinism will still cull some from the system regardless of how many laws they pass.

Srex, did you read the article, they are being outlawed due to lead content in the batteries.

Take another look at what the actual issue is here.

I went to five different dealers today before I found one that would sell me a 50cc bike. The last guy said that he had too much $ in inventory to not sell them. My son loves his new Yamaha.

Yes, I know about the lead and that and ANY other argument they toss out there to try and ban bikes for kids is completely assinine.

My point was if parents REALLY want to get a bike for their kids, they will probably be able to find one.

Used is usually the best way to go.

As for me, I really need to stay out of the Ducati dealerships or I'm going to do something I shouldn't.  We already have 4, and while I don't need another bike the 1098S is just begging me to jump on and ride off.
