If you put up an ISO, have the F%#$*%# courtesy to respond

Post by mthhurley »

I'm so PO'd right now.  I went out of my way for a DBag newb who put up an ISO for a bunch of HTF because I was feeling holiday generous (not a lot was really HTF but his words, not mine).  I went back and forth with this guy for over a week on "this stick, do you have that stick, add this one, take that one out"....And in the end, he tries to low ball my by $9 off the price because of some sob story about his paycheck and wife when I told him in the beginning how much it was.  So then he just stops responding.  Meanwhile, I've packed 5 finger bags, taken pictures, emailed them to him, had this stuff sitting around waiting and now...nothing.

It's dicks like this guy that really ruin it for the rest.

I know what you mean. I have tried to hook some guys up with some HTFs and I tell them right off the bat that the prices are MD prices and that they are the B&M prices, no markup whatsoever from me. I will not charge a penny for my time or gas to help them out. I have only asked for cost of sticks plus shipping. I even gave some guys the phone number of some shops so they could verify pricing. Most cigars were not incredibly high, at or slightly below MSRP & MD tobacco tax and 6% sales tax. I got the feeling that some people were either looking for freebies or just wanted to waste my time. What the hell do people think I do all day? Anyway, I will not even open an ISO unless I know you. Sorry about the thread jack, but I know what you mean. This probably happens to quite a few of us and it will end up ruining ISOs for some. Thanks for letting me vent.

I hear ya.  My prices were MSRP, straight up...I didn't even include the 18% sales taxes I paid!  1 stick out of the group I upcharged on because I overpaid for it, so I was trying be nice and backed out my own taxes on all of them.

So I'm now on your path full count...if I don't know your name, I'm not even opening your ISO.

Post his handle so others don't make the same mistake or get sucked into his douchebag vortex.  Plus, I will place him on my own mental dochebaglist...

I feel for you, I have offered sticks to people with ISO posts up, but never even got a response, but I am glad it didn't go the way your deal ended, I would have been pissed too.  I think anyone putting up an ISO post should expect to pay FMV for the sticks they are looking for... and as long as your prices were in line, he should have paid and the deal would have been done... no low balling or price negotiations should have occurred since you were helping him out with sticks that he couldn't otherwise find without someone's help, and if he found a better deal or another person was helping him, he should have told you that before you packed 5-finger bags and got things ready to go...

That sucks man and I hear ya.  I've been burned before multiple times which is why I don't bother with ISO's any more unless it's someone I know and trust.

I don't understand why so many here leave the handles out.  I would love to know who that was, to keep on my own scumbag list.

I don't want to list names because I wouldn't go as far as to call them scumbags, they just don't have any regards for someones time and effort. When I started smoking cigars I was afforded time and attention from some experienced BOTL and I try to pass that on. Unless I am totally confused about this site, it was created for buying and selling cigars, not jerking people around because of a whim. If you have questions that is cool, I have them and don't mind answering them, but don't keep pursuing  something you have no intention of dealing on, or lowballing a price that is a BOTL's cost. And finally, answer your damn PMs one way or the other. I will not have any B&Ms hold cigars anymore just for me to tell them a "friend" was window shopping.

The guy didn't screw me over per se.  I can't scumbag him really.  Just rude I guess.  Plus I'm giving him a touch of benefit of doubt about his situation about salary and his family stuff he mentioned.  Still could have sent an email that said "situations have changed, can't do it, sorry".

Anyone who wastes my valuable time is a scumbag in my eyes... and anyone dealing with financial problems should not be hunting for cigars to begin with (dog rockets or otherwise)... just my 2 cents.
