Scan says delivered

Post by t33bone »

buyer say never made it.

I sell a box of cigars. Person says they never made it. I did receive payment. Person wants me to compensate somehow to make the trade right. I am at a lost as DC# says they were delivered and they have a personal locked mailbox. Post office does an investigation and says they had to be delivered to the person due to the fact that nothing is scanned as delivered til it is actually delivered. Did the PO steal them? Did the box get damaged and they saw what was in them and kept them?  I really do not know except they say delivered. I do not think someone would risk there gov't job over a few hundred dollars worth of cigars but I know worst has happened for less.

Many time it will say delivered but it was not delivered to the correct address.

Did you have insurance? If not was it offered to the buyer and declined?

Not related but...I had 2 packages (both were electronics, and not cigars) heisted from my local UPS hub, before they were delivered to me... they never found them, and they told me that they knew they had a thief working there, but were still investigating.  Neither of the boxes were insured, and UPS told me to take it up with the original shipper/seller... pretty wrong in my eyes, since they knew the problem was on their end.  I ended up with nothing because they were not insured and I never heard anything from them again.  I rarely use UPS, even though their rates are decent (especially for larger boxes)... they have screwed me way too many times over the years to earn my business on a regular basis.

It sounds like you are in the same boat with this situation, and there is something going on at that branch of the PO where your cigars were supposedly delivered.  Not paying for signature confirmation or insurance (another couple dollar fee on top of shipping), gets the PO off the hook for anything.  I just hope your outcome is better than the total loss that I got x2.  Good luck.

would having the insurance make a difference, seeing as far as the PO is concerned, the package was delivered ? i too always pay for the insurance, not sure how something like that would play out tho.

I have been burned on the insurance before. They asked for a receipt of a damaged item. I had no receipt but it was obvious they damaged the package and item. Their investigation was NO RECEIPT, NO INSURANCE even tho I paid for the insurance. No refund for item w/o a receipt of what you paid for it. I understand now cuz they could get ripped off all the time w no receipt. I will make sure in the future to pay the extra for signature upon delivery.  Aslo this has never happened in my 4 to 5 years of trading, buying or selling cigars and have always used USPS.  Sucks, I know.

I've had the USPS mark a box as delivered on a Thursday, and not have the package in my mailbox until Friday. I did complain because once the box is marked delivered, you have no recourse with the original sender FWIW.

The person you sent it to needs to follow up with the mailman to see if he has any memory of the package. Left it with a neighbor, wife signed for it and left it in the garage etc. The key is the postman and the longer you wait, the less they will remember. This has alaways been a big concern for me when it is an apartment as the mailman may leave it at the door if no signature required. John

t

You are a good BOTL

I always ask if the buyer wants regular or signature.

If regular is chosen and the package is scanned delivered,

I figure it is implied that I am off the hook.

I know it is closing the barn door after the horses escaped

and I am offering sage advice, not wising off.

For expensive orders, I will spend the extra few bucks

myself for signature just to be sure.

I hope the case is solved, and look forward to future

transactions with you.

BTW

I was not involved ... just offering an opinion.

I read the post and came on as if I may have been

the buyer ... I was not

Just wanted to clear that up
