I think a large percent of the insane prices is the influx of new cigars smokers in the "craft millennial" generation. As stated other places, the same thing that has happened to whiskey (mainly bourbon) is starting to boil over into things such as cigars. More millennials and bourbon geeks are seeing these aged and "HTF" cigars and paying near double and triple retail because they are used to it! If something is aged, limited, or hard to find it only makes sense to spend 3x the retail price because...its craft! Its cool!
*I write this as a 24 year old who's been smoking cigars for 8 years and trust me, my new idiot cigar smoking fiends pay stupid amounts for cigars just to say they have them. And they are working part time minimum wage gigs...

BR is resetting pricing across the board.  There's a "standard" now that the secondary market can refer to.  Maybe good, maybe bad, maybe so, but it opens up the market further.

I have a couple 10 year old reg prod boxes I tried to sell here a few months ago for what I thought was very reasonable prices. They didn't sell. Now I am seeing similar boxes sell on BR for twice what I listed them for. Tempting!

Definitely two different scenarios and philosophies.

As for myself; now being retired and on a steady never changing income; I can really appreciate this site for a fair deal on a box of cigars which I can pick up on occasion to pick up some nice cigars to smoke.

Now, for the BR site, if you have the goods and can command some of those; out of this world prices, why not?
For what you could gain would be an opportunity to purchase several boxes of new stuff, to smoke or lay down.

The tobacco crop differs from year to year and some of the newer stuff might be from a recent stellar year for the tobacco crop and you might end up with some real primo smokes.

Even if I had tons of money, I would not touch cigars from BR, for the fact you might spend a fortune for a total box of duds. Unless, you are adding to your collection; just to stare at and show your cigar smoking friends to impress them.

JMO.......and to each his own, and life goes on.

BR is for poor people with a few good boxes to pass them along to rich people so they can smoke all the good stuff. As such, it is aristocratic and unamerican. Fuck BR in their monogrammed ass holes!

Happened in 2001, 2005, 2008, 2010, 2014, and now 2020. It is what it is. Just don't be the fool to hold the bag at the end.

There were auction sites before?  Or there was some rush on aged stuff?  I’m honestly curious, if you don’t mind elaborating for someone still pretty new to it all.
