So what's the prevailing consensus?  Has anyone here had any chit seized?  Is it time to start looking elsewhere?

I didn't see this thread earlier or I would have chimed in sooner:

Swiss Post (no matter who's using them) now requires the ACTUAL contents to be displayed on the packaging.  I know of one vendor who is still trying to get away with skirting these new rules for now, but we'll see how long that lasts.

Here's why...

After IRTPA 2004 regulations finally took affect some years later... US postal x-ray requirements went through the roof!

So, now, if your package gets randomly x-rayed (and the likelihood has greatly increased lately) and they see cigars... but it says "chocolates" or "reading materials" or some such garbage... your package is definitely getting opened and will end up confiscated when they find CCs.

However, if your package gets randomly x-rayed and they see cigars... and it SAYS "cigars," they have much less justification for opening the package in the first place (nor do US postal employees want to take the time to find secondary justification and fill out the necessary paperwork to notify a Postal Inspector to get it opened)... so you'll likely be okay.

According to Swiss Post...... confiscations are WAY down since they began implementing these new regulations on shippers.

That's why it's being done guys... they don't want your stuff snagged either... and this is an effort NOT to get packages opened in the first place...... and they say it's working.

If you personally don't like "cigars" on you box, you can certainly use other vendors that don't ship with Swiss Post... there are plenty of legit ones out there...... but I, for one, haven't had a single problem...... and I've made over 50 orders that came Swiss Post in 2010 so far.

Hope that clarifies...

Cheers!

A buddy of mine got seized back in March.  I haven't had any problems *knocks on wood* since the new regulations went into effect.

I am ordering from more non Swiss Post vendors.

My last two shipments were both labeled 'Cigars'.  Previous orders had funny things listed, with 'Assorted Cathedral Candles' and 'Designer Pens' topping the list of my favorites  :nana:
