i always have drank coffee black. a few cream and sugars here and there.
except for in the summer i like to drink cuban style espresso which i learned to make from a waitress at versailles restaurant in miami. great coffee and if anyone is ever in that neck of the woods theyve got great food. best key lime pie in miami imo.
oh to live next door to versailles.....

My Great Granddad drank his coffee black, as well as my Granddad, and my Dad as well so therefore I have known nothing but a nice rich black cup of coffee and I have loved it since day one.

How did you get into doing that?

I think its funny to see people drink their coffee out of a straw at Starbucks. Anytime you are in a rush it seems like the cup of coffee is the hottest one ever brewed. So you can't drink it for 30 minutes untill its cooled down, by that time you forgot about it. I decided to start getting it cold in a paper cup with ice and able to drink immediately without burning my tounge.

I was talking to a friends mom yesterday who's in her 80's. She said they would make a large pot of coffee, the family would drink it with breakfast, and whatever was left over she would put in a glass pitcher then drink it with ice later on that day. I found something on the huffington post blog today and they say that you put the grinds in a French Press, leave it overnight and it cold brews that way. Pretty simple actually!

I've never tried it w/ distilled water. I've just been using the filtered
water from the refrigerator. I grind my beans, and leave it to brew overnight
right before I go to bed. This is not becoming one of my favorite ways
to drink coffee!
If you ever want to taste dark chocolate notes in coffee, try it cold! :D

Re: Black Coffee is not so bad....
I only drink my coffee black. I have also taken to roasting my own beans at home. I buy green coffee beans from all over the world and roast them to my own idea of perfection (full city roast+)
I have been purchasing beans from a guy in the US who's father owns a coffee plantation down in Nicaragua. These beans make some phenominal brew. I am hoping to make the trip to Nicaragua one day to meet the man , see his plantation and hopefully score as many pounds of beans and as many sticks as I can carry home with me. :bangin:

Re: Black Coffee is not so bad....
One of my favorite things to do is to pair a real nice Nicaraguan stick along with a nice fresh roasted, fresh brewed Nicaraguan coffee, and sit out in the yard in the sun early in the AM. The air is warm but still fresh, the birds are doing their thing, the world is just getting up and still scratching themselves and I am enjoying myself totally.
Interesting idea there Zepp. Maybe we can arrange a coffee bean swap. Does anyone else out there roast their own beans?
