I have 5lbs of beads in my 28 bottle New Air. I did this on purpose as I don't want drastic changes from opening and closing of the door. Another thing I noticed with living in SC is DO NOT tape the drain hole up. I have a steady 65/65 at all times.

Just wondering the advantages and disadvantages of taping the drain hole up? I was told it is a good idea to keep humidity from escaping. I live in SoCal and it can get hot... from what I've read when the wineador is working hard to keep cool this is when the condensation can build up. But then again I'm no expert on wineadors (I've only had them for about 2 years, so I'm still kind of new at it).

It's not as much about the humidity escaping as it is the Temperature changes. You want to create a good balance of Temp and Humidity overall and not have drastic changes. My best advice is to leave it in the coolest place you can.

Sounds good Taps86... Thanks for the info!

[/quote]Was told the same thing and for years I left it unplug and had no issues in South Florida which is humid as hell. Maintained Rh fine. Actually plugged two of my wineadors 8 months back to see if it would make any difference. Had some condensation in one and lost a few cigars lol but have seen ziplocked all the boxes and no worries. RH and temp on those have been the same as when unplugged but who knows there could be a difference in fluctuations as it is hard to tell

Geez....the more I read on wineadors, the more confused I get.  Like you Ryko, I live in hot/humid climate - Houston.  I've read on other sites that once summer hits Houston that there is no way my New Air (with it's thermoelectric cooling system) will be able keep up with the temp setting of 65 degrees.  My home at 2-7pm will be in the high 70s, so the wineador will run all day.  Some say in the heat we live in, its better unplug the wineador to avoid the condensation.  If thats the case, I should have just bought a cooler!!

Right now, I have the wineador holding at 70 deg/65 RH......drain hole plugged, electronics are unplugged.  I have about 8-9 boxes in it with 2lbs of HCM beads.

I love the work Forest does! I don't get the drawers however, just go with the shelves for more room with boxes! I have three desk tops for singles.

I'm guessing it depends on what beads you use as to how many pounds you need.  Per HCM's website, 2lbs is plenty for a New Air 28.  Hearrtfelt may require more....don't know.

Just ordered another pound of heartfelt beads, Thanks Taps (lol).  So I had ordered a new Hygrometer (CC 4093 Traceable Pen) that is certified and came in yesterday for the new wineador.  Placed it in my 18 count and was pleased to see that my 3 Hygrometers were only off 1%, I was a little worried, not because of anything else other than  the accuracy of the devices.

Got home last night and my newair was waiting for me! Took all the shelves out and sprayed it down with white vinaigrr to get the smell out, then put two containers of baking soda in and will let sit for a couple of days. Can't wait to get it going
