Where are the whiners to proclaim "profiteer", "gouger", or "there's no way he paid that much for them" because they would always sell to their "BOTL's" at their cost?

i suppose everyone has their own approach... but if indeed it is answers you want to these questions, perhaps all of these questions would be better asked via PM. rather than speculating in a thread in the battlezone.

Does it make sense that someone would post a serious FS thread like that without either listing box codes, posting pics or both?

Quoted for truth.
Leo is a hell of a guy... generous to a fault. I've met him and smoked with him multiple times. I've also bought things from him at more than fair prices and know him to be a man of his word. His post states that the sale is for cigars owned by a friend... I would believe that, if he wrote that, that is what he meant and that the prices were set by the friend he is selling them for.
In my experience with him on a personal level, he is in no way the kind of guy who would screw anyone over, friend or stranger.
Just my two pennies.

I have no reason to believe that the seller isn't selling them on behalf of another person. I am sure pics, box codes, additional info would be provided if asked for. I don't think its a joke.
You can look at recent auction sales and decide for yourself.

I just read the original post for this sale ... and immediately headed to the BZ to see if there was a thread, lol.
I'm of the "believe him until you have proof otherwise" persuasion (though that didn't hold out with TL ... but that's water unter the bridge). If he says he's selling for a friend, that's cool with me.
These prices are out of my league, but I have no problem witih the concept of charging for the service of proper long-term storage of cigars. For those of us who have not been storing cigars this long, it's nice to have the option of buying aged sticks. Though I'd not pay anywhere near this kind of markup myself, I can see how someone might. If it's between a box of CGRs or a box of well-aged favorites, I can see it.

Auction prices at Christies, searchable on Google, match many of these numbers, esp the HDM 1995's. All you have to do is ask this seller if it is what you want and buy or don't. Searching the net for pricing is kind of my thing and I found it in about 30 seconds.

Leo is the best to deal with...if you don't want it don't question him..he will deliver what he has offered ...his prices are fair considering he ages his own boxes and has taking all risks. :horse:

So, I guess it comes down to what value someone puts on these... is a box that sold in 1995 for $200 worth $2k in 2011 ? Maybe to some... but not to me.
I have never griped about CC pricing, as there is risk associated with getting them, and they do become more valuable with age. Some people are willing to pay a premium for that age and long term storage, by someone else. My previous comments in other threads about profiteering and gouging are mostly related to harder to find or not even hard to find cigars that were purchased recently, bought solely for the purpose of reselling, and brought on here to be flipped.
However, it does bother me when I see someone selling 5'ers of 2010/2011 box code CCs for double what they just paid for them. I don't think that's right, not even with the associated risk, but I usually read those posts and move on without comment in the BZ.
The bottom line here... if these cigars are truly worth the listed prices and current market value, I hope he sells them.
