buckwylde and Smokestack79

Post by AlohaStyle »

This thread is just a reminder to people to do your due diligence when buying... I think too many people see a great sale and get into the competition of being the first person to reply without even thinking what they are doing.  I don't know these people from Adam, but just wanted to point something out as a reminder to people to think before they buy...

buckwylde has had a big sale here over the last couple of months after joining OLH on June 19 2013.  Smokestack has a few big sales going on as well after just joining August 10 2013.  Smokestack immediately got a trader feedback from buckwylde saying he's a great seller etc.

The interesting thing is buckwylde was selling some high end Padron's.  Now Smokestack is selling the exact same Padron's with the same quantity, price and wording... simple copy/paste.

Doing a basic google search of buckwylde, his lone post on Cigar Aficionado on May 4th says he has 7 Padron Milleniums available for sale.  Of course that might not be the same person and/or could have numerous valid reasons.

I did email with Smokestack about a different sale he has going on and he gave me an explanation for the above, but I chose to personally move on... From what I've seen over the years, it just isn't worth it to me to get involved with sellers I don't know, and especially brand new sellers that raise red flags.

I know many people have given buckwylde good trader feedback from his big sale so I'm not wanting to start a pissing match if they are good BOTLs/Sellers etc, I just want to share my perspective to remind newbies to do their due diligence when buying cigars and make an informed decision, not one just trying to be the first person to make the buy.

In all fairness to buckwylde I have not PM'd or emailed him as this isn't a dig towards him as I know plenty of people are happy with his sales... just more of a reminder to people.  There have been plenty of people in the past that stuck up for people that ended up being big scammers, and there are also many people that have had deals look fishy that ended up being great BOTLs.

Interesting thread. I might also mention that $45 for a Cohiba Sublime EL 04 is an extraordinary price. As you said, perhaps just a great BOTL...

Usually we have long histories on other boards, perhaps another handle?

smokestack replied to an email with his real name and promised pictures...at this point all I can say is that it would appear that he is not Triple Ligero...other than that I have no idea as to the legitimacy of his stock.  given the rare nature of the items it goes without saying to proceed with extreme caution.  there should be a better reference than one piece of feedback given from someone who himself only showed up two months ago.

I did receive some pictures for a sale and nothing looked out of the norm.  But my motto in dealing with new sellers to me... Cigar buying is just like dealing with my 1 year old boy.  If he walks by and I smell something stinky, odds are there's shit in his diaper and I don't want to look.

Perhaps these gentlemen will post on this thread and tell us about their histories on their home boards. That would be a simple way to end speculation.

They may be two people but it looks like all the IPs that they have used to log in are from the Port Orange/Ormond Beach area of Fla and one of the IPs overlaps.

Somebody needs to prove something to me before I get back from the garage with the ban hammer.

This is not a court of law.  Here "reasonable doubt" gets you banned, and right now I've more than reasonable doubt that this is two people

Must say there've been quite a few extraordinary offers showing up in a short timeframe. Will be intersting to see how plays out...

When I signed up for this site I was using my friends Internet connection.  I was on my computer though.  I can understand everyone's concern from the past experiences of getting burned from other people.  I can understand where everyone is coming from.  There will be multiple feed backs hitting tomorrow and Thursday as I shipped 3 day mail on Monday and Tuesday. I ask now for some patience in this matter and I'm confident it will all clear up within 24-48 hours.  Thank you.
