Question about Cabinet Humidor with Glass Doors

I recently screwed up my end table humidor so I have to go shopping.

I am buying a new humidor soon and wanted to buy a tall display cabinet humidor and place it in the dining room.  I read that the glass doors are not a good idea due to fading and drying of the sticks.  To tell the truth I did want to "display" them.  Coming home daily and looking at the display case with boxes opened showing off the sticks would have been great.  I know that what I buy will last years as I only smoke once a week.
Is this a bad idea and why?

You make mention of "drying" of the sticks.  Any humi with a decent seal will prevent this from occuring.  I'm not sure what you mean by, "fading", though.  I would be more concerned about proper aging as I'm not sure you will obtain optimal results if keeping the cigars in open air as opposed to in their respective boxes.  Besides, looking at all of your boxes stacked up atop one another might be just as impressive as looking at all of the sticks.  At least I think it is when I come home and gander at my tower!

I planned on keeping them in the boxes,, just didnt know if the boxes should be opened as they are stored.  I understand about the drying in terms of having a good seal..  I was concerned after I read a blog about the glass on a humidor and they had to cover the glass to stop the "fading and drying".   

so no concerns with Glass??  that is good news.

Not sure what their concerns with fading and drying would be.  My tower has a glass door and the cigars are as wet as I want them to be, (62%-63%RH).  If by fading they are concerned with the fading of taste, I'm not sure I'd worry.  I would, (and do), keep my cigars out of direct sunlight though, as combating the heat would become an issue. 

The "keep the box open vs. keep the box closed" issue has been debated as often as the "cello on, cello off" issue.  I can only speak for myself in that I keep the boxes closed.  I have smoked a good deal of old stock, (8-20 years old), from closed boxes and thought that the cigars tasted just fine.

My cabinet has a glass front and over the years my maduros have faded into naturals.  :lookatme:

Seriously, the only thing you have to worry about with glass front cabinets is keeping it out of the sunlight due to temperature issues.
