Going to DR, need some recommendations

Post by Lo Phat »

Great forum!

I've been smoking on/off for a few years constantly trying different sticks.  I definitely would consider myself noob-status still.  I recently found a few NC's that seem to be my style but would like to try a couple CC's that might have a close profile.  I vacationed the DR a few years ago and got ripped off with fakes.  Not even the guy walking down the beach, but local cigar shops.  The shop in the actual resort seemed legit but crazy prices.  So I'd like to go there with a little knowledge of what I might like and research labels, etc before hand.  Maybe find a few here to take along on the trip.

A few of the most recent cigars I like are: AB New York, Punch Rare Corojo, Cohiba XV, Siglo Limited Reserve, H. Upmann 1844 EL.  Mainly robusto sizes. Although I like others, I could chain smoke those listed.

Any help would be great!

If you are in the Dominic Republic I would look for LFD. LG cigars are one of the few noncubans that I still go for other than Opus X.

It's cheaper to take what you like rather than buy there.

What LFD would you recommend?

Yeah, I was hoping to get some ideas and see if any popped up here.  I'm leaving in a few weeks so I have some time yet.

Pretty sure other than duty free in the airport you will only find fakes both CC and NC. I believe the DR is a trade free zone so no legal sales of cigars. I could be mistaken though
I'm not so young or impressionable anymore, but still younger than most of you old hags-LOL

This. It's not even worth looking down there. You won't get any deals and most likely will be getting sketchy stuff. You can buy local rolled stuff in certain shops for pretty cheap but I wouldn't go looking for cubans or high end ncs.

I really like the lfd coronado. I had one earlier this year that blew me away, really a nice cigar. I could have just got a good one tho....you know how that is.

Have fun on your trip!
