The downsizing of America

Post by TheJerkyMan »

If you haven't noticed our economy is in a shambles and it's getting worse every day. Working for a large pharmaceutical company.  I've been lucky enough up to now. To feel, that no matter how bad it gets, I'm one of the lucky ones. This last week that feeling went away.
Our company is now going through a major restructuring process. To sum it up in a nut shell. There moving a lot of there operations offshore. It will take three to five years to make the move but it is happening one day at a time. With the powers that be, holding the cards as close to the vest as they can while there doing it.
In the last six months they've shut down several facility's in different states and are now doing what they call RIF or Reductions In Force... Layoffs!   All the while toting proffits and stock concerns for there investors.  Saying they need to keep the company solvent in todays global market place.
It starts out like this. The founder of the company retires. He hands off the company to a new CEO (paying him close to a million dollars a year plus major stock in the company to do it.) He proceeds to restructure the company.  Forgetting about all the hard working employees that help build the company in the first place.. From there perspective, it looks logical.. The numbers add up.. In the end though you have to ask yourself. What does it do to the fabric of America and the American worker??  It's our innovation and hard work that create a lot of these markets in the first place.  Built by the hard work and sweat of the American worker, from the ground up.. The founder didn't do it all by himself!
Then the business grows, till it gets so large that they have to compete in the global market.. How are you going to compete in the global market?  You move your business off shore..

    Sad, very sad indeed!   :finger:
