Van winkle 12 yr (lot b)
Is this stuff all that or should I just stick with the Eagle Rare 17 and Jeffersons 18? The Stagg was nice, but a little hot for my taste.

I love every van winkle whiskey ive tried. I think the 12 year is bloddy lovely. Its not 107 proof but still a very tasty whiskey. Ive got the jeffersons 18 year which is great, but imo the vw12 is lots better, more taste. Plus, youll save a little coin with the vw12. Not had the eagle rare, so cant comment on that.

The VW 12, IMO, is not nearly as good as the JP 18 or the ER 17. It is good whisky, but I compare the generalized hype to all the Fuente-limited drama that we all endured in the late 90's through the mid 2K's. The more limited it gets, the better it tastes. I would pay a small premium for the VW rye(13 yo). The 15, 20, and 23 are good whiskies, but not worth the price or admission, or chase IMO.

I do like the ER17 and JR18, but they both seem a little too mellow at times and was looking for something a bit bolder. Probably doesn't matter now as it's unlikely that I'll find any VW at a reasonable price.

IMHO, the Lot B is the least of my favorites from any of the HTF Buffalo Trace releases (Pappy, BTAC, experimentals, Single Oaks...etc) but it still a good bourbon. I'd prefer the ER 17 though. If you have a chance, you should try it, but if its a choice, try the ORVW 107 10yr...its amazing... :bait:

I too like the orvw 10/107 but if u wanna save your hard earned money its pretty tough to tell the difference between the orvw 10/107 and old weller antique. Hell they taste about the same to me.
