Johnny O custom Rolls

Post by polarbear »

I'm planning on pickling up a few bundles of Johnny O's customs but have heard people talk about a "sick period" with them.
Some say they're great ROTT, good when fresh then need a rest and to let them rest for at least a year.
I plan on grabbing a heap regardless as I don't mind letting them rest for a while but was curious about the best way to approach them anyway.

He does a lot of business here so I'm sure there are a few people with experience in this matter.

Sounds accurate to me, in my limited experience of a couple of years. I personally like picking up his samplers (and sometimes adding on some singles).

Interested to hear as well.  Grabbing a bundle as I have heard about these cigars for years but never purchased.

I am a lover of most CCs...it is all that I smoke.  I generally smoke 2-3 cigars a day.  With CCs at $6-10/stick that gets pretty expensive.  John not only has great cigars, but they are very affordable.  Most, I smoke ROTT.  On occasion, I will have a few left over....these generally smoke a bit harsher in their first year.  Unfortunately, I have been unable to have any last longer than that.  I would add, that I probably have smoked several hundred of John's customs and have only encountered 1 that would not draw properly.  I would recommend them to anyone that likes CCs.  Darker wrappers tend to smoke sweeter than the colorado wrapped.  Hope that helps you.

I bought a fiver of various sizes from him.  I've smoked two and did not like them although I think I smoked them in their sick period.  For those that like them the consensus seems to be either smoke them ROTT or wait a year.  The remaining smokes I have left hit 1 year in Jan so I will revisit them in the coming months to see what I think.  If I like them then I'll pick up a couple bundles.  The price is great for those that like them.  You can do a search on several forums and these will come up.  There seems to be some debate whether they were cuban tobacco or not.  If you pick up some let us know what you think.

The first bundle I bought were pretty wet and I had to let them rest for a couple weeks.  For the next month though they were outstanding and now I'm letting them go the prescribed year before I dip into them next.  For what it's worth, I just ordered another bundle and plan on ordering more in the future.

Always liked johnny os. I usually set aside a 5er from a bundle to smoke and box the other 20 up for a year, two is even better. Cant go wrong with them. The only thing that sucks is when i find a bundle that aged well and i didnt buy a few bundles of them.

Hey John,

Just something I've read on various forums.  From what I understood you don't reveal where you get your tobacco from?  In any case I'm not asking you where you get it from.  Hopefully the ones I still have will be everything I hear they are after a year in my humidor and I'll be hitting you up for a bundle or two.  PM sent. Dan

For the record I've been informed by a reliable source that these are indeed CCs.  My apologies to John if I've caused anyone any doubt.
