Pete Johnson = Rocky Patel, JR ?

Post by tksamtec »

I think all of the new..."from the creators and makers of Tatuaje" sub-brands are getting a little crazy... and all of them are coming out at about the same time.

Surrogates
L'Atelier
El Suelo
Trocadero

Did I miss any ?

I like the idea of an economy Tat smoke, but are these smokes not good enough to just release them under the Tatuaje flagship brand, and avoid all the costs of making new boxes, bands, logos, marketing, etc?  At least that's what they are saying to me.... seems to me if they wanted to release an economy smoke, they would just start making the P series Tatuaje line again... which was a good smoke for the cost.  I know several guys who woudl smoke the P-line, if they could actually find them.

I don't think so. Imo it's his family and friends getting the opportunity to make and sell cigars on both pete's and the garcias name. The cigars still obviously have a tie to tatuaje..especially the surrogates with the name plays on tattoos. I love the surrogates, especially the tramp stamp and the crystal baller!

I smoked a skull smasher (or skull breaker or something like that) and a bone crusher earlier this year, and they were not my thing... I wouldn't buy them again.  Maybe the others in that line are better, but these were the first 2 released and based on their flavors, I wouldn't buy the other 2 in the surrogates line.

For some reason I'm burnt on Tats at the moment.  It shall pass, I'm sure.  BTW, I think they did reintroduce the P series in 2011.

Ive been wondering if Pete and Don Pepin are spreading themselves too thin as well.  I havent had a bad Tatuaje yet, but my favorites are definitely the ones rolled in Miami.  I wonder if quality control can be maintained with so many brands and types under their belt now.  Fuente seems to do it quite well, so does Padron...

Well...PJ isn't dyeing his maddy's yet, or making $2 POS for every online retailer out there that retail for 5X that.  So I wouldn't quite say they are there yet...but yeah...

I will not buy anything form them.  I only pick them up in trade and if I like, then buy.  I really liked the LAT54 and think that wrapper will be a hit in future blends.  It is definitely not your typical PJ/DPG blend.
