Question about board usage....

A bit of background...

I've been a member of CF since early '99 (my number there is 1806) and it was from there that I found this place back when DannyM had it.  From the beginning I have been very careful not to shill this site on any other BB, I think it's just bad form, thus I ask my questions here.

I cant speak to what people on other boards do because for cigar stuff I only visit CF and here.  My question is, why are there people over there still not using OLH?  Especially recently when the SS system was down.  Do they not know about it? Is there something I can do to make it better? or do they just like the whole interaction of sending out 14 emails with prices? 

This is really kind of new since I've brought the site back, 4 years ago before I made the changes that killed the site there wasn't a sale there that didn't send you over here to look.  I can understand if it is someone that I have history with that just doesn't like me, that I get, but some of these people I've never heard of.  back before the re-design Drew actually had a link to onlinehumidor in the rules section where he talked about not posting prices. 

Just looking for feedback to try to make the place better.  :beer:

A valid question and being fairly new to CF still, I can only speak to my experience.  Even though I only signed up on CF about a year ago, I was reading and following the site for quite some time before that.  I heard of the predecessor OH site, but never saw/used it.  I think I always assumed that most everyone at CF knew or now knows about OH.  I check out CF and OH regularly and usually one right after the other.  I recently sold a few cigar lots here at OH for two reasons: (1) I personally thought it would be easier for me and the other members since I could post prices and (2) I just assumed most users of CF also regularly check OH and as such, there was no need to post a "See OH" thread on CF.  After reading your post, perhaps I am incorrect with my assumption.

Please keep up the great work and we appreciate your efforts in maintaining OH.

I'm not sure why folks don't utlize the site more. 

First thing I do when I see a F/S that I'm interested in is look here to see if they posted it with a price.  Much easier than the back and forth SS / email path. Thanks for making it available.

Tech, I think the traffic is actually pretty good.  Looking at the statistics since April it is consistently around 300 unique users a day. Five years ago I didn't have the capability to count unique hits, just page hits and I was getting about 750 to 1000 a day.  Considering that many of those who come here do so more than once a day that puts the traffic about where it was.  I'm just wondering why some of these folks aren't using it.

I think many of them are new and don't remember OLH or it's relationship to CF (i.e., Danny started it as a place to post prices) .

I find OLH very helpful indeed.  It bears mention that asking those here why the place isn't used more is a little like asking the kids in a classroom why kids cut class. 

That said, is it possible that back in the day, (prior to my joining CF), when the use of OLH was almost protocall, there were far fewer cigar focused sites in general?  Although I generally only go to CF and here with the occasional stop over to CP, perhaps many others who post F/S threads at CF are also doing do on several other boards that do allow the listing of prices.  If so, such posters might not feel that it is worth the bother to go to a seperate site just to post a price for the potential CF buyer.  Just a thought for whatever it's worth.

And that having been said, I truly like this place and would really like it if more folks from CF and elsewhere began using it.

This board should be used more than eBay. I will start a thread at the FCR where slowly I will start directing traffic here. If those morons were not looking for super cheap deals, they wouldn't get rippedoff.

Just from the fact that everyone selling here gets double checked for integrity, that alone is priceless.
