I likez smokinz tha Dunhillz...
The answer is in your sig.

This is out of my price range ($400+)...and my avatar is just a joke (its the Russian Directv guy with a Dunhill pasted into the pic).
Finding a 1972 CC would be a pretty tough task...and most 15+ year old CCs I have sampled have been somewhat disapponting and pretty flat in the flavor department.
A rare Opus is definitely an option...I guess I was automatically thinking CC.

I haven't gotten that far... probably some good Canadian Whisky, maybe Crown Royal XR or Cask16... I like both of them and already have it in my bar. I am not a huge Scotch drinker, but I really enjoyed a bottle of Jamesons Special 12 year Irish Whisky a couple weeks ago. I really don't put my thought into the drinking side of it, only the smoking side.

Re: 40th Birthday smoke suggestions ?
First thing that came to mind was a Padron 40th (due to the same anniversary/year), but it seems like you're looking for something a lot nicer. I would then have to say a special/limited Cohiba like a few people have mentioned already.
I'm trying to figure out what I'm smoking for my 30th coming up, and have narrowed it down to about 4-5 cigars. NC and CCs. =)

Re: 40th Birthday smoke suggestions ?
While I may be young and may not realize the importance of such a foggy milestone :smiley-cool:, I firmly believe the following. If you have a huge expectation on something, especially if you've previously never had, you are setting yourself up for disappointment. I bought several books, reservas, grand reservas, ELs with gigantic expectations, only to be disappointed in the result.
Moral of the story is that...you know in the back of your mind, what you really want to smoke, but you want others to give you other options. You know that smoke that popped up in your mind is the special cigar for you. You know this, but want to think there's better out there. Smoke it, and know that it is your favorite cigar, and it must mean something since you thought of it first.
Me? I'd smoke a Macanaudo Hyde Park. It was the first cigar I ever tried. I'd pitch it after some point, but I'd laugh and enjoy the memories of how I got into cigars.

Re: 40th Birthday smoke suggestions ?
I guess thats the problem... I really do want to smoke something special...and I have been disappointed many time before, so I always go into things with an open mind and with low expectations... that way, the disappointment is minimal. ;D
Here are some of my thoughts on what I think might be cool to smoke for my 40th:
-a 2000 Cohiba Siglo VI (just a turn of the century thing, and nothing at all related to my 40th), plus, these will be really great after 12 years of age on them... probably in their prime.
-a 2000 Opus X (any). ANother turnb of the century thing, and nothing realted to my 40th...I really enjoy Opus X's, but not fresh ones, after about 7 years they are superb and these always age well.
-a Cohiba 1966 (its the 45th anniversary smoke, and not 40th), but I fear these might not be aged enough yet. These are easy to find though.
-a Cohiba BHK56...no special reason on this one, just because its a Behike and easy to obtain.
-a Cohiba Gran Reserva... no special reason, just to say I smoked one on a special occasion. This cigar did get a 99 from Brooks at halfwheel... so it probably is very amazing, $200+ amazing ? Well, I am not sure about that.
-a Cohiba Piramides 2006 EL (I already have a box of these, and from everything I have read, they are amazing). Plus 2006 is Cohiba's 40th anniversary.
But maybe the Holy Grail/Bucket list cigar for my 40th is this one:
-an original Cohiba BHK (40th anni), its probably most appropriate 40 years for me, and 40 years for the Cohiba brand.

So, anyone who was lucky enough to get some of these, if you want to let one go (just 1), please contact me...

Re: 40th Birthday smoke suggestions ?
Never seen a 2000 Siglo VI, but 2003s I dipped into last month were kind of...how shall we put it...meh. They seem to have gone over the hill. It could have been me, but who knows. All cigars save for 1966 of last week have been completely overrated.
But this is a guy who finds himself constantly scratching his head at 99% of most 90+ point reviews on those "premo" cigar review sites.
The HdM petit piramides have been exceptional however. How about the DE Egg? :bounce:
