Here is something I found when I was looking for the difference between the blends. The fillers in both the No.9 and T52 blends are Nicaraguan and Honduran. The difference between the two are the wrappers. The T52 wrapper is stalk-cut Habano Seed grown in CT. Hung upside down to cure, etc. The wrapper on the No.9 is CT Broadleaf No.1 Darks. This is according to Steve Saka.
They look different also. The No.9 has a "reddish" tint and the T52 is darker.

That stalk cut habano is probably where the strong ashy flavor comes from I suppose and it probably give the T52 blend most of its nic punch, I am normally not a big fan of the stalk cut habano or jalapa wrappers.

This is it for me as well.  That ashy taste gives it away to me every time.
