I am writing this because another Member asked my what I think of this situation. I know the next post will be from Todd ( as usual) but here goes.

Lisa,

I was wondering, this gecko, who has the genios for $1000 each- he says that with import duties and such, he paid 'roughly' that price for them since he lives in Canada.  How accurate could that be?

----

Had a Long talk with him. I wrote to him when I first saw his post to advise him that was way out of line and as a fellow Canadian I could perhaps offer him some advice. This is why he posted the photos, but he still did not get it until we spoke some more. By that time he felt the BZ had gotten so bad that it was no use and guys had written him such nasty e-mails.

He is actually an amazing guy who restores Gibson Les Paul's for a living. A true craftsman. He just knows squat about selling cigars on forums.

So take it or leave it, we all make mistakes.

Lisa

PS - we may pay that much at a retail shop, but that is irrelevant. I sent him links to the cigar Czar and a typical site most of buy from, $420. I also said that as a new member he had no cred an the bill was for 2 boxes not 1. That battle zone guys will go nuts on him.

Cheers.

Great coffee, cigars and whiskey. Love them all.

Lisa--I never want to disappoint anyone... so I will claim the next post (as usual)  but will decline comment on what gecko said.  :angl:

I am so disappointed that these were not rolled by Hanb though... I have heard that he does amazing work.

Ok....  So the guy is from Canada, but paid in USD?  Isn't there some sort of penalty for using USD in Cuba?  10% or something.  But with Canadian dollars, there is no penalty.  I think the exchange rates are pretty flat for USD & CAD to Cuban Pesos.

If he paid ~$850 for 2 boxes, that is one thing, but ~$850 PER box is insane.

Does anyone know what he actually paid per box?

We (and he) already know he screwed up royally because he knows nothing about selling in forums. Are you going to continue to crucify him? Because if you are, be sure to only see retailers here.

You had your investigation, found the problem, and fixed it.

Note time of post. I have a cough and have been banished to the family room.

Let me see if I understand this.  You contacted him as a fellow Canadian and gave some advice.  You have not answered the same question twice and he never has, so I think we know the answer.  He did not pay that price for 1, but for 2.  So now he is trying to make 100% profit on his cigars that he knows very little about.  He is a great guy who works on Les Paul's and knows little about selling (but a lot about making big profit) and we should give him a pass.  Okay......................................

No, you should not give him a pass. You did not give him a pass. You were right. You brought it to the battle zone:

I said, he knows nothing about selling on forums, the price of cigars, he screwed up, you made your point. So you do not have to keep crucifying a new member. A new piece of info, he thought it was the moderator's job to suggest a price if his was out of line. That is how out to lunch he was about this.

Guys have been writing him nasty e-mails and here we are.

If you must keep this up, you must have nothing better to do. By the way, the last time I was in this situation, the guy was from FOH. He put my name down without my permission. So do not think this is a habit of mine.

I have nothing against the guy, and I haven't crucified him.  Obviously, he made a mistake, thinking he was going to make a pile of money (2x+) in the forums selling these cigars to people who supposedly can't get cubans.  Well, most people here have several CC sources.  He can easily rectify this situation by posting these for a more reasonable price (like $450).  He won't make the coin he intended to, but lesson learned and move on...at least he won't lose money, and that's a better solution than having the cigars sitting around drying out, due to not being stored properly, then desperately trying to sell them later once they are dried out.
