Apparently you did fully read my mea culpa, so, once again:

I entered into a transaction with John before the information was disclosed.

Are you suggesting that I should have issued a stop payment on my check?  Wouldn't that make me a scumbag too?

Should I have left a negative trader's comment for him even though he fulfilled his end of the deal?

I thought of not commenting at all so as to avoid the ire of the good BOTLs and SOTLs on this board but decided that would be chicken shit as well.

So, I guess if that makes me a POS, ass, A-hole, and dummass as I have been called,  I can live with that.

Reed, I owe you an apology, only now did I bother to check the date on your positive TC on John's profile.  I see now where you sent out payment prior to the information about him being a liar and a thief came out.  I apologize for jumping to the conclusion that you knowingly transacted with a known thief.  If I may beg your indulgence;  Would you do so today knowing what you do? 

I do however feel it's noteworthy to point out that the tone of your initial post on this thread and the TC you left on John's profile are demeaning to those of us that seek to protect one another from the nefarious acts committed by men of John's ilk.  In fact I so focused upon that while reading that I neglected to inspect all dates involved and jumped to an incorrect conclusion.  And while that is no one's fault but mine, I can honestly say that chances are more than likely that I would not have done so had your posts reflected a tone more respectful to those of us seeking to foster some protection within our community.

Certainly you are entitled to your opinion, but many men have worked for years at compiling and maintaining the Scumbags List.  Perhaps they were all wrong and you are right, but I don't believe that to be the case.

I don't think that RNaka's "mistake" of dealing with Chilibean would convince me to consider that RNaka is in any way to be "shunned" as a bad trader, and certainly not as a thief. He seems to be a decent person without any otherwise bad marks on his record that I have seen. So he jumped on a TSBC offering, possibly without checking out who he might be dealing with. I have done it myself and, yes, I feel guilty about it still. I feel bad for those who are intentionally ripped off by others, and I do my best to support them by not dealing with the known thieves and bad traders. I don't know RNaka, nor do I really know his true feelings on this subject. If I were about to leave someone a favorable TC, and then read the person's previous "bad" TC's, as I assume RNaka then did, then I hope I would think to leave a TC saying something like, "without first checking this person out, I did make a deal with him/her, and it went well, but....". I certainly wouldn't start throwing bricks at him without first asking, "Reed, how do you feel, in retrospect, about (a) the fact that you did a deal with this person, and (b) the TC that you left for him?" If he were here in the Portland OR area, I would be more than happy to meet Reed in a local cigar lounge and chat about it. Would the lynch mob be waiting for both of us outside?

I normally keep my own counsel and rarely get involved with the fracas which is the inevitable outcome of these forums but you were both kind enough to express your thoughts so here are couple final ones of mine.

I agree the tone of my initial response was defensive.  Not use to being called a POS/ass/A-hole/dummass by people who don't know me from Adam, (no offense to Adam if you're out there).

No, I would not have entered into the transaction at the time if I had been aware of the issues.  However, and I know I'm going to flogged again for this, I would be willing to buy from him in the future.

I still do not know what the entire saga concerning John involved.  But it seems that he has at some level tried to make amends. Does he still owe you (Knuck42)?  BigRon seems to have reached a settlement.  Who's left? If there's still an aggrieved party will his making good to them clear his name?  By the attitudes expressed by most on this board I doubt it.

In any case, I'm an old fart who's raised four sons and know by my own personal life experiences and theirs that people make mistakes.  Are the flawed? Yes.  Are they scumbags?  Sometimes yes and sometimes no.  Everyone must eventually keep their own counsel.

As for the Scumbag list, I think it serve a very useful purpose and in no way am I trying to disparage the efforts of those responsible.  My issues are with the nattering nabobs whose only contributions seem to be carping from the sidelines towards what end I couldn't say.  Post count I guess or to enhance their “cred” with the popular folk.

I apologize for the dummass comment. It was out of line.

What bothered me about your comment was it appeared that you were overlooking the issues and couldn't be bothered by doing your due diligence. It has been a long saga, but this guy not only flat out stole from people and only made it right once people were ready to visit his house, but then he had the audacity to be indignant about people calling him out and showed his a$$ to well respected people on several occasions.

There are a lot of guys who try to look of for other people by outing scumbags, and when it appears that someone is knowingly dealing with a scumbag, it casts that person in a questionable light. It appeared as if you are thumbing your nose at those guys. Scumbags can only continue to scam people if people continue to deal with them.
