Connection issues here at OLH, Traffic, and CF down

I've been under a rock for the last few days so I missed the CF going down thing.  :popcorn:

I'm guessing that with CF down some increased number of people were here looking around.  Well, it seems that my host has some server side protections in place that limit my database queries to 50,000 per hour.  A lot of things on this page query the database every time you load a page.  I'm sure karma is one of them so I've disabled it.  I may have to disable the custom titles too.  I haven't looked into the code but I'm know that it has to query the database to determine your title.  I've left it on fir now but if I have problems  tomorrow I'll disable it too.  I'll see what else I can do to get the queries under control, and I'm putting in a ticket to the host to see what my options are.  (hope I don't have to move the site) 

In the mean time, if you get a message saying something to to effect that the database questions has exceeded 50,000 it should re-set within an hour.  Till then I'm working on a solution.  (I'm allowed a bunch of databases and I'm only using one for this site, so I'm hoping that I can negotiate a deal to get more dbase queries for fewer databases)

So far it looks as if we're still OK here.

Actually I did get a huge hit over the weekend.  Looking at the stats I had slightly higher unique users, but I got hit with 4 to 5 times the usual number of page loads (over 40K page loads)...

I doubt if it was anything but it was enough to kick us over the line on queries from time to time

Another short talk with tech support and I think I have it fixed now.  Seems that my database was open to spiders and was getting queried by every search engine in the world.  I think I've got it fixed.  Sorry for the interruption tonight.
