Yesterday I acquired the most beautiful box of cigars:

But won't they dry out if stored in this can/box? Didn't Zino think of that?
And what of varnished boxes?

Re: Noob question about cigar boxes
They will be fine in that container as long as its stored in a humidor. Same with a varnished box. As long as the environment around the box/can is correct (60-70*, 62-70% RH), you will be fine.
There was a post which a couple members actually put meters in the boxes with the cigars. The difference between the inside of the box and the humidor was like 1-2% RH.
So, that said, I keep my humis at 67-68%.

Re: Noob question about cigar boxes
Dear Stumped,
The question you ask is one that has been asked in many forms on many boards since the advent of online cigar communities first took place. Most often phrasing involves cello off vs. cello on, but there has been no dearth of alternate phrasings involving petacas, varnish, slb's, dress boxes, and now, thanks to you, tin boxes!
You will no dount receieve as many varying opinions regarding the storage of your fine puros as there are members who choose to post on this thread. In my experience leaving the cigars in their original factory packaging never does any harm regardless of what that packaging is. The only exception to this has been where the packaging has been designed by the manufacturer to be a humidor in and of itself. In these cases I develop a concern that parhaps the exterior of the packaging being exposed to the high RH in the inside of my tower humidor my warp the materials so I choose to leave these items out on their own. Otherwise it's in the packaging and in the humi it goes. Hope this helps.

Re: Noob question about cigar boxes
Thank you gentlemen. I do not have a humidor big enough to house a dress box, only an unplugged bar fridge coolidor. And one time I had this wood box of cigars that went too soft because of the overdampness in there. In time, in my regular humidors, they were fine.
It just seemed the absolute non absorbent metal of a tin box was a goner.

If its sealed, humidity can't get out NOR will the metal absorb it. In a cedar box, the wood will absorb some of the humidity. So, I wouldn't be shocked if you get a higher RH reading in a tin versus a cedar box.
Go get yourself a huge cooler and build a coolerdor. They are the best for box storage IMHO.

Re: Noob question about cigar boxes
...and don't forget about humipaks or Boveda packs too... they work great for box storage, if you have a relatively sealed or close to airtight cigar box, like I am sure these Davidoff Zino have. Most of the time, a cigar box will have ample room to put in 1 of these packets, and still close the lid... 1 Boveda pack will handle 20 or so cigars and its a 2 way system that sucks in or lets out moisture, based on its factory specified RH (the RH level is determined by something to do with the membrane surrounding the gel inside the pack. I think they sell 65, 67, 69, and even some higher RH% ones. They even have a humipack with 85% for humidor seasoning. These packs work well if you don't have a cabinet humidor, or any place to store larger boxes and can be recharged many times and only need charged every couple months or so.
I keep my all of my cigars at 65-66%...I have found that CCs smoke much better at 65% versus the 70% RH I used to store everything at a few years back...

You just have to be careful the Boveda packs don't burst(which happened to me once). I still use Boveda packs though, they are pretty handy.

Only time I have ever heard of them bursting was during shipping. May be due to the pressure in planes. As far as someone placing one in their humi/boxes/etc I have never heard of one bursting.
