I understand where you would get the impression that Sandman is like TL, but I assure you that is not the case.  Matt's actually pretty well known amongst other boards, maybe not here..  I and others have purchased things from him in the past and guys we know have smoked/met him personally..

Edit:  And the specifics arent' there, but I 'm 99% sure he's referring to Montecristo #4 Reservas

So was Sig and we know how that story ended. Yes, the No 4 which you can buy for $134. Now add a fancy band and you got 575.00  Sorry, not drinking that koolaid. IMO he is full of shit and has been on a few items for sale.

I'd ask if you've ever smoked a Monte Reserva but I already know the answer to that question which is a resounding no.  So you have an opinion on what a cigar you know Jack and Shit about should cost, thats a refreshing take for you.  No idea on what they were priced at on release or how few boxes exist or how old they are but think $575 is high?

But would it surprised to hear that while $575 is at the high end of the spectrum for that cigar its normal, kinda like the price fluctuations of Coke between grocery stores depending on how much they have to move?

The issue here is not so much cost, and pardon me for speaking up here, but I have now learned something.

The issue here is now provenance. If you have dropped a name like Monte Reserva, and a $575 price tag, at least add the appropriate information to give the sale some guts.

Great coffee, cigars and whiskey. Love them all.

First if you are serious PM him and ask which ones they are.  Two merely dropping his own name is sufficient enough for those of us who don't buy from unknowns and take the time to interact in the larger cigar community than just OLH.

To put it another way, I'd sooner buy these Monte Reserva's than trade exspensive NC's for your cheap PSD4's.  As Chenvt pointed out Sandman is a known person in the cigar community.

[/quote]I've always said that this comes down to knowing your source.  By this I mean buying Cubans from folks including stores.  Trust trumps everything.  This cigar represents the kinds of purchases I target, tho this particular one isnt of interest to me.  For me I dont worry as much about source because I trust my seller.  To list source doesnt add credibility because without trust all it adds is that persons word and I'm pretty sure no one who is selling you fakes will come out and say "Damn it you caught me, the source is my dot matrix printer."

My rule of thumb is that I buy from people that I know or people that I know very well vouch for.  Thats my entire list of trust. personally.  When I started this list I picked the first people on it by picking people who had good records for sales, felt comfortable in conversations with me and had sticks I wanted.  I think thats as good as its ever going to get.

LMAO  "Trust trumps everything" until you find out you have been getting fuked and have a box full of fake cigars. I would rather buy cigars on facts, info and background.
