Blind Sampler? Please...

No pissing match.  You made what I felt are incorrect statements based off of your one experience.  I felt the need to make sure future sellers and buyers knew of the benefits and risks associated with blind grab bags.

Clampdown, I know you to be a reputable member of our online cigar community.  I would not buy a blind sampler from you, but not because I believe the sticks would be of poor quality, or because I think the package would be worth less then the price, but because I am sour on the entire idea.  I cannot say the same for others.  Others are the main reason I am sour on the idea. 

That said I disagree with some of your points however.  To intimate that the risk lies with the seller rather then the buyer is, IMHO not usually the case.

I agree...hate this form of sellling. It smacks of a foollish nobbie selling tactic. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth and who could complain if they did not like what they recieved it just makes them look more foolish. Dumbass you bought the sucker!!

Ditto, just from how he describes his methodology in doing such things. I don't know him & haven't dealt with him, but his comments lead me to believe that I would probably not be disappointed if I made such a purchase from him. Granted, I might receive some sticks in the bunch that I don't care for personally, but I risk the very same thing every time I try a handful of new-to-me sticks at the local b&m. Besides, a blind trade, a grab bag, a gifted cigar, for me, this is stuff meant just for the fun of the experience.

That is kind of abrupt and I know was negative in my post, but clampdown was very reasonable in showing how he would take care of folks who deal with him. And  OLH members would certainly fare better than anywhere else I am sure (unreleased dinner cigar notwithstanding).

I wouldn't buy a blinder from just anybody same as I wouldn't buy most things from just anybody. There are some people here I would buy a blinder from in a heartbeat. It come down to reputation imo.

I would buy a blinder only from someone I knew very well, and even then only if I were in a wierd mood.  Not that there is anything wrong with the concept or those who do it, it just isn't me.  Though earlier in my cigar collecting phase I was more tempted by the sampler concept in general.

Blind samplers appeal to gamblers.  I'm a risk-taker, but not a gambler.  I only take risks for a reason, not for the thrill of the "I might win big!"

BBBBLIND SAMPLERS ARE BACK AGAIN......WHY? I for one would not buy a blind cc sampler-I know my taste profile-heck I spent enuff to find out. Why spend my hard erned $$ on someone eleses opinion whom I do know know? Is this just a marketing ploy? Why do it?
