viaje- original ideas or taking them from others?

Post by ned »

ok this is my rant. this is nothing but my opinion on it....

I think viaje has been great and ripping off other peoples, ideas, packaging etc.

here are my gripes as to what has been

yes dion wasnt the first to do a candela, but he was the first to do it really well. and then viaje comes out with a candela from the same factory. i think that is a pretty low class move.

then yesterday i see this zombie viaje is doing. to me it is a rip off of petes monster series.. and not to mention the color and styling of the M in the middle seems to me to a be very similar to monster energy drinks logo.

I know this is a small thing, but it bothers me.

and another thing while i am at it, i am sick of it seeming like everything they come out with is limited to a 100 boxes and it is really difficult to track any of it down.

*climbs down off my soap box* rant over

Not familiar with the brand, but It's not new, 14 yrs ago people all over the place were copying the Fuentes' shapes and ideas.  The good news is that generally they can't make a living copying someone else and eventually they go away.

I agree with you and rant on other forums quite a bit about this so here it is.

In short ...Fuck tatuaje. I'm damn near close to saying fuck Viaje as well for the what 6-7 odd stupidly small batched limiteds they did this year.

Also I hate the sizing on a few of these Viaje's coming out. About $11 for a 54 x 4 or some shit. I say give me a CoRo for $11. At least I get a full cigar without a stupid jawbreaker RG.

In general the LE market for NC's is fucking retarded. Way too many.

Although doesn't everyone in every industry rip off other people?

The Zombie release does have me scratching my head.  And I too is tired of chasing these extremely limited releases.

It's sad because several of the Viaje blends are very good (Exclusivo being the best by far, better than the CA #2 cigar IMHO).  But when you only release a hundred or 2 boxes a year, yeah, its frustrating.

And as my collection of CCs grows, I find i'd rather drop the $7-11 on a regular CC release than some of these limited releases.  Give me some RASS all day every day.  Or even a nicely aged Monte Petit Edmundo.  Nom.

But, the best way to show your disapproval...  Don't buy.

What I've found over the last few years is that I would rather smoke ANY  $2-3 cc over a $5 or even a $12 and up nc.  And the $7 and up cc's, for me, are without comparison in the nc market.  But that's just my opinion.

All the 2-3 dollar ccs are machine made. I'll gladly have NCs over Belveders or Guantanamera any day. However, the 45th anni and zombie Viajes have made me less a fan of Farkas.

Astripp, you are entitled to your opinion, but you are mistaken with your opening statement.

I'll rephrase, I don't know of any 2-3 dollar handmades, and the budget smokes I know of, like Party PCE, PLPC are closer to the $4 range.
