Cigar Reviews

Post by atomross13 »

I love reading other peoples reviews of cigars so please join me in sharing your reviews or good, great, bad, and/or horible cigars.

Trinidad Reyes from 2006.

Pre-light draw was a bit tight but the creamy flavor was very tastey. Construction was good, bit of a crack at the foot.

First few puffs were nothing but cream, cream and cream. a nutty taste slowly developed during the first 1/2 inch of the smoke. From there on to the very end the taste of cream and nuts continued. I smoked this one as far as possible, until my lips were almost burning. This has to be one of my favorite cigars, I just wish I could keep some of them to age but they never seem to last more than 6 months.

overall rating of 85 out of 100, just due to the small crack and the lack of other flavors besides the nutty cream tastes.

Trini Reyes are a very good smoke. You should try a Cohiba Sig 1 if you liked the Trini!

Todays review is a R&J Exipition #4 from 2005. I was smoking this on the drive home so did not get a chance to write down everything while smoking so this is all from memory.

pre-light draw was perfect with a taste of tabacco and spice. Construction was spot on.

First few puffs were full on spice. About 1 cm into the cigar the flavors of leather and toasted tobacco joined the full spicy flavor. the flavor continued until the very end, with spice dominating with the leather and tabacco providing a nice background taste. This was a medium to full bodied cigar that had me buzzing a bit. It never became bitter which I feared it would being so young.

Over all rating of a 95, just a bit strong for my tastes right now (nothing a couple of years won't fix) will have to get me some more of these.

Today was an el Ray Del Mundo ROBUSTO LARGA Maduro. This cagar is nicely wrapped in paper, to make you think you just won a prize.

Construction was good, few light spots on the wrapper.

Prelight draw was good, not too tight and not too loose.

Fired it up and the from the first this was a sweet smoke. Lots of sweet tastes, I could not really identify the exact tastes, some kinda fruity sweet taste. While not unplasant not what I ususally go for. The sweet flavors lasted till about the last 1.5 inches, then it started to get bitter so I tossed it. The ash was a very nice soft white and would hold very well past 1 inch in length.

all in all a decent change of pace cigar to make you really like the good stuff. Becasue of the consistant taste and nice ash I give this one a 78.5 grade. I would smoke this again just not very often.

Pepin Blue Label Torpedo

Pre-light draw was bit loose. the foot was cracked in one spot.

First few puffs were full on SPICE. then a bit of pepper developed during the first inch. The flavors settleted out to mainly spice with bits of pepper and leather for the last 4 inches of the cigar. the ash was a nice white color with a few dark grey spots. This one got to hot for me to nub due to it being a bit underfilled, which was a shame becasue it was a very tastey cigar.

I rate this one an 84 due to it being underfilled, if it had been filled peoperly would have gotten in the mid 90's.

Partagas Series D #4 from 2006

This was lunch today.  The head cracked as I cut this one.  :(

Pre-light draw was good, bit tight.  Leather was the main taste.

First few puffs were a good leather and tanin taste. the leather was the dominate taste throughout the cigar. the underlying flavors of cocca, coffee, earth and some sweet flavor I could not really place. the ash on this was a light grey with a few areas of dark grey and areas of white. And the ash did not fall off until over 1/2 way through the cigar and it was windy.  I am going to let the rest of these take a nice long nap.

overall score of an 86 due to the crack unraveling.

What a day. Wife out of town, so its beer, pizza and an anejo 48 tonight.  :bangin:

This was my first non-shark anejo. after taking the cedar off I noticed a few small spots of PLUME!

Pre-light draw had me worried, it was very tight. Still I went on with lighting. First few tastes were notihing but sweet fruity flovors. after about 1/4 on an inch the cigar opened up and the smoke started rollong. the sweet flavors were complimented with roasted tobaco and cedar. This was a great tasting smoke all the way to the nub. The ash was a medium grey with lots of white spots, and a small black line following the small vein in the rapper. I am still buzzing from this one and I finished it 15 minutes ago.  This was a great 1.5 hours of pleasure.

I rate this a solid 96. Wish it was not the only one I had.  :(

Today's review is a Diplomat #4

This is a nice little cigar. Construction was good with just a small tear itn the wrapper where the vendor removed the band.

pre-light draw was firm, bit of floral taste to start.

first few puffs were a floral fruity taste with bit of wood. First ithird the taste was all floral with wood. second third a bit of spice just started to show, the woody taste had came to the foreground with the floral taste diminishing. the final third was all wood with just a bit of spice and the floral taste. the ash on this thing was very stron, stayed until most of the way through the final inch of the cigar, and it looked funky. the color of the ash was grey with lots of white specs and some larger brown spots. I have never seen brown spots on a cigar ash before.

overall a good smoke would give it an 89.
