You are missing the point because Jeffrey has steered you away from it by bringing NCs into the discussion. Nice try. But the premise of your post is built on an assumption in his post that he is simply pointing out where cigars are available for the newbies benefit.
I call bullsh*t.
These guys are helping nobody but themselves to keep the price of cigars down for themselves at everyone else's expense. The price police say that cigars are available abroad for cheaper prices. But here's the catch, THEY DO NOT ORDER THEM and they will not order them!!!!! They want you to take the risk and expect to freeload off of your efforts. Thus, these cigars are NOT available to them at any price other than those being offered in private sales. So they try to perpetuate this stigma if they are not afforded the right to buy cigars at cost, even though they have not earned that privilege. It's not brotherhood, it's leeching off of the community.
And the biggest balls is to declare cigars that ARE REALLY NOT AVAILABLE anywhere should be sold at prices at which these people would not buy when they were available.
If you think that this is about their beneficence in telling newbies where to find cheap Opus X, you're on drugs.

Are you saying R&J has never ordered from an overseas shop? Or did you mean anyone who complains about a gouger doesn't order from an overseas shop? I'm confused about you being so upset about keeping the price of cigars down. Are you a retailer? It seems to me like you are confusing two separate matters. On the one hand you seem to be referring to another thread about people sending PMs to a seller and offering a lower price. The gist of that thread, imo, was that people who knew they could be had at such and such a price were offering that price via PM even though the seller had a higher priced listed. Personally, I wouldn't do that. But this whole thing started when someone left a link in someone else's comments section. I've read quite a few BZ threads and don't recall one being started bemoaning someone selling sticks 5% over what people can get them for currently or when they were available. But the matter at hand is that R&J left a link to a discussion on a seller offering an odd box code and then a huge price drop, I don't recall seeing anyone mention the original selling price.

Wow...what a massive strawman. You almost entirely ignored my whole post to make this about your dislike for one person but since you went there let's be clear how we got to this point; RyJ called out Cubanlover for possibly having a bad code and certainly having a higher-than-usual price ($650) on a box of BHK56 and you took issue with the calling out part.
Ok, we get it, you believe that's an appropriate price for that box of cigars. Good to know where you stand on the whole "gouging" issue....

You know, one day all of us will have to sell something because of an event in our lives. And if you ordered or took the time to baby your stuff and age it, you would not take kindly to being labeled a gouger for offering your cigars at the price you think they are worth because some freeloader wants to keep the market depressed and cries "brotherhood" trying to make you look like the bad guy.
This isn't about one guy. I don't know Jeff except for what he said. I disagree with it, with the greatest respect possible. I think the practice of commenting on peoples' prices is not driven by genuine concern for the brotherhood. Is $650 a fair price for BHK 56? I don't know, in Canada they are $1000. But are they worth $650 to those who do not care to order from abroad. They should be.
Commenting on authenticity and fair advertising, like selling Behikes from a code nobody had seen and with a factory stamp that did not exist in Feb 10 is something I think is separate and that we can all agree on.

I'm sorry to hear your margins aren't what you had hoped they would be. Hopefully some of the "freeloaders" will go away and you can get those margins up. Who knows, maybe they'll ask you to ring The Opening Bell. Until then, just keep in mind that there are those who view this as a hobby and not a business venture or a supplement to their income. There are also those who are looking to get what they can out of them. Different strokes for different folks. But if you're going to act like a retailer and maximize the return on your investment, you should probably grow thicker skin. It sounds as if somewhere along the way you were called a gouger and it really stuck in your craw.

Just had to see too many guys who really needed it, get sold short because of guys who want cheap cigars. But I guess no one wants to pay for their hobby.

You had friends who had a unexpected life event and thought they would be able to pay for it with the margin they thought they could make on their cigars? Smoke them, trade them, gift them, whatever. But to count on them as an investment probably isn't the soundest advice.

Eddie smokes and gives cigars away like tic tacs.......he looks at the whole picture...he actually invests in real estate.....which sometimes is not as solid as cuban cigars when 30000 boxes get stuck in customs. :finger:

I can't say I agreed with your other post but it was at least level-headed and mostly objective. I'm not sure exactly what the dig you're making here about paying for the hobby is all about. I know lots of people who don't smoke and somehow I never hear about them needing to sell their stuff all the time. It seems like the community of cigar smokers must have the worst luck in the cosmos or something that all these bad things keep happening to people who just happen to have thousands of dollars tied up in cigars they can conveniently sell for as much (or usually more) than they paid for them.
Just my 2 cents...I totally support folks asking whatever the hell they want for their stuff, as long as they understand someone else is going to disagree.
