Aging cigars in cardboard boxes

Some cigars, like Monte Edmundo, comes in small cardboard boxes, 3 cigars per box.

How do you age those cigars?
Do you leave them in the original boxes, or do you take them out and put them in a cedar box?

Same question for the tubo please.

I think you have to start by seperating tubos and pectas, (cardboard boxes of three).  I believe that in the short term, (2-7 years), there is no discernable difference regardless of what you are aging your cigars in.  After that a difference begins to develop in taste. 

The greater the amount of air transfer between the aging cigars and their surrounding environment the faster the marying of the essential oils and flavors in the leaves thus creating that aged, balanced taste that we all love so much.  However, with the accelerated aging comes a reduction in the depth and body of the discernable flavor.

Ideally, cigars should be aged in airtight containers until they are to be smoked.  For this reason SLB's and cabs are optimal as are tubos.  Dress boxes would then be next best, and cardboard packaging would then be dead last.

I just smoked a Hoyo Petit Robo form the OR of Oct '04. These came in a 5x3 format. The cigar was awesome but I think its time to remove then from the cardboard 3 packs as they are now at that 7 year mark. I also have some VR Don Alejandro form 04 that should probably come out too.

While I hate to ruin the [i]pristine look[/i] of any packaging, my own [i]extremely[/i] limited experience tells me that the cardboard flavor, tasted once, was enough to train me [i]away[/i] from storing in petaca packaging. (ok, ok, it really started out because I'm poor, and a cheap bastard to boot, and it kills me to ruin even a cheap cigar)

After you've accumulated cigars for 3 or 10 years, then go back and try to figure out what goes in which box? 

I used to know every shape and size and exactly where I got everything, now I look in boxes and go ... WTF is that?  Some unreleased FFOX I think, must have gotten it at CFC but I don't remember...

Hmm.... what are these 4 different unbanded cigars in the top of the desktop?

Leave them in the boxes, you'll be better off in the long run.
