I snip just the cap with an palio. I have used everything else but the palio seems to work best for me.

Cutting the cigar in an angle pushes the smoke upward toward the upper part of the mouth and towards the back in a circular motion, and it really enhances the taste.  With some perfectly rolled cigars, biting down on the end properly, just snaps the cap, and it's ready to go...
