Re: New Poll - cutting the head
I use a cheap double blade guillotine. I seem to lose any nice cutters I have so I just go with the freebies handed out at events.

All right, Bill. I tried it today- with of all things, a Hemingway Sig. I figured I was far enough back that if I screwed it all up I could still clip past any damage caused and still smoke. And it worked! Although the cut was a little rough, it was quite enjoyable, and certainly felt different. I can see how this would need practice to perfect. Don't know how often I'll try it, but it is nice to know I've got a fix that will always be there.

Wow! Interesting first choice. Like jumping off right into the deep end. I would have reccommended trying with a Cuban, non-torp, so as to benefit from the triple cap. The cap lends itself to this method IMHO as you're really not so much ripping the leaf as you are opening up a seam. With triple caps I've been able to pop them off at times in a manner that looks darn near as clean as using a cutter. I'd be very curious to see what your experience would be like using a triple can cigar.

I like a good V cut or Philips cut. Larger sizes, a Cuban Crafters "Perfect" double geoteeeeen.

Re: New Poll - cutting the head
Wait, wait, wait... are you guys telling me you have to CUT these things before you smoke them? Great... that explains a lot......
In all seriousness, it somewhat depends on the cigar for me.
99% of the time... I use a double-blade like a palio or twin-steel.
However, for super-thin lanceros, I sometimes punch... and for thin wrappers that like to unravel, I'll V-cut.
I've been smoking for 16 years now, though... so when I forget the cutter (as I did last night out to dinner), I have no problem with the old moisten-bite-peel method of removing the cap!
Cheers!

Cut most sticks but use my XiKar punch for robustos.

I like to snip it a bit into the cap not cutting it off. Open enough for a nice draw.

I mainly use a double guillotine, occasionally use the V-cutter. I hardly use a punch even thou I have 2 of them.

I usually let my dog chew the cap off then I take it away from him and fire it up.
Naw, just kidding. I punch everything except torps which I snip with my Xi3
