I have found that many times it is the additional circumstances that just take a great cigar to a whole new level!

Couldn't agree more. Grandpa used to say, "You can't shine shit." That is to say, even the best of circumstances won't turn a dog rocket into an etheral smoking experience. That said, it sure can take a run of the mill, every day cigar, and turn it into something very special, and a very special cigar i to something that is indeed etheral.

For me it's been:
Casa Fuente CG - love em. Opus should have cHaameroon wrappers. :)
Davidoff 100th anni Robusto - unique to me and I love em....but have none left!
Davidoff Chateau Lafite - 80's...- smoked on the balcony of a hotel on my honeymoon. Very nice!
Hamlet custom churchill shagfoot - very unique to me in taste profile, but smooth and good complexity.
1920's Lords of England pre-embargo - great little smoke.....still has great "nose" and makes me think of how Cuba used to be before it was nationalized.
1954 H. Upmann Belvedere - same as above pretty much. Claro wrapper....taste was still great. A great find from a great BOTL who was kind enough to let me in on a few.

In general - VSG ERs and 1998 Trini Fundadores are always at the top of my list. The '98 Fundadores from the Cajon of 75 are some of the best I have ever tried.
However, there is one cigar that I will never forget:
1998 Opus Petite Lancero
What a special cigar. Fuente Fan was kind enough to share this cigar with me to celebrate the birth of my identical twin boys.
Conner and Tyler were born on 5/25/09. They were a bit premature, as is common with twins, so we spent the first couple weeks in the hospital while they were in the Special Care Nursery. I can’t express how amazing it was when we were finally able to come home with them.
After we came home our schedule was hectic and I kept waiting for a time to enjoy this special cigar. The day finally came: the weather was perfect, the twins were asleep and my wife and her mother were on duty so I took some time to light up this cigar.
The cello was stained a deep, dark yellow. Upon firing up the cigar I knew I was in for a special treat – there is something so unique and wonderful about an aged Opus. To be honest, all I can say is that it was the best Opus I have had and one of the most enjoyable and memorable cigars I have smoked. It was the first time I could truly reflect on what it was like to be a father. Since they were born, our schedule had been so chaotic - the vast majority of our time was spent doing everything in our power to ensure that they were getting healthy and getting the vital nutrients and affection they needed to continue to improve. So being home with my sons for the first time, enjoying a great cigar given to me by a good friend was an exceptional experience.
Thanks again Brad! It was not a cigar or a moment I will ever forget.
Hard to believe that my little guys will be turning one in just a few short days! Greatest year of my life (and I am writing this at 3:30 am as I just got done rocking one of my little dudes to sleep!)

And on a side note, it's very nice to see this thread taking off as it has. I was hoping it would and I very much enjoy reading the responses.

My first cigar - a Don Carlos Robusto in 1994.
Bolivar Belicosos Finos - In the Bahamas with friends. May have been the setting. May have been the Havana Club 7 years. Great no matter what.
La Gloria Cubana Wavell - A Miami cigar from 1996 or so. Just had it recently and it was amazing.
