When is the cigar price insanity going to stop?
I haven't bought a box of cigars since the insane price increases over the last couple years. Are people actually paying $800 for a box of cigars that was $200 a couple years ago? Or paying $2500 for a box of esplendidos? It just seems insane to pay that much for cigars...

To many it does seem insane to pay that much but to some money is no object.
We were spoiled in the US. Biggest market for cubans at one time and prices were so reasonable we could stock up on anything. Those days are gone. Enjoy what you have and forget about what they are worth.
US politicians created this mess by allowing the exporting of American manufacturing. Chinese businessmen got rich by selling cheaply made products back to us in the US. Now they take those riches and drive up the price of everything worth having. Wine, cigars, bourbon and high end cars.
You can be sure the NC producers are also watching the market and will be raising prices as much as they possibly can. If they can generate interest in the same markets that's where the cigars will go at much higher prices. I've tried liking a lot of the NC's but for me they just don't cut it. Once in a while I come across something worth having but most NC's just don't have what it takes to satisfy my palate.
Going forward I will still be buying what I like and probably just smoking less.

As long as these idiots keep paying the inflated prices on the 2nd market we will not see it come down. I can live with Habanos prices at this point, no I will not be buying any Cohiba. My buying habitats have changed alot, I will buy something if I am almost out of or have a craving for.

Exactly! I sometimes wonder who is actually buying some of the higher end stuff. Guess there is ample capital available to some.

All good responses.
I think many are in the cigar "hobbie" but probably shouldn't be.... when ya see cigars being sold to pay for a new water heater or new clothes for the baby...that's a good sign ya might not have enough money to "play" in the cigar arena.
To me, just a market correction that will probably weed out several. Heck, I've seen myself buying less, and trying certain NC's I've never tried in my life.

Re: When is the cigar price insanity going to stop?
It has always been amazing to me how there are so many guys that in the past would buy and buy and sometimes never even open the vacpac. How can these guys never even open the package and look at what they just bought. I can only assume these are the same guys that only smoke a cigar once a month! I guess it is like the wine guys buying and buying and just store it. Like one of my friends said "There are collectors and they are smokers" I have always been a smoker I could never wait, as soon as a box landed I would be smoking one that night. I have had a few near death experiences so after them, nothing has every been off limits. Well maybe the Davidoffs and Dunhills :rotf: From that begining I was always addict, by a year into this cigar adventure I was smoking at least one a day. Then moved into working in cigar shops/lounges smoking 3 to 4 a night 7 days a week.
I can only hope that the prices will go down, but I doubt it and thats ok "You have to pay to play" I will never stop enjoying the thing I love with so much passion! I think of it like this: If you are a drinker you spends hundreds on a bottle of wine of booze and not even blink, or play around of golf at $100 + ect. But there is a limit on what I will pay, and some of these guys and trying to rape this great pleasure we all have!
