What do I put on the customs form when shipping cigars from Lithuania to USA?
A friend of mine in Lithuania is going to be shipping me 6-8 boxes of cigars. I've received tons of boxes over the years from Ihav, coh and foh etc but he is nervous about it. What should I tell him to put on the customs form and what should I tell him to put the declared value as? Also do you think we should break it down into one or two boxes per package or should we just go for it and put them all in one larger box?

Some of the vendors I use write "candles" I had one recently declared as "flashlights"
Heck, iHavs just flat out declares cigars for the last couple years.
If it were me, I'd split it into 2 or 3 parcels just to hedge my bets, just in case...

Candles? That's hilarious. Although I don't know if that would pass the X-ray test.

Yeah, they won't be fooled by "candles" or similar nonsense. No point in doing that.
I expect 99% of packages don't get x-rayed.
But if your package gets pulled to go thru the x-ray machine, it's gonna get confiscated no matter what was written on the form.

Exactly this.
I don’t have insider knowledge of the inner workings at the ISCs but I believe it is completely random. They may have sensors that detect munitions/chemicals or occasionally sweep with K9s but I believe the volume is just too high for it to not be random.
This is only my assumption, maybe someone with more intimate knowledge will chime in.
Ad far as what you declare - I agree with Gipper, if it’s pulled, it will be seized. But you have to declare something at origin whether it’s candles, dog treats, condoms, whatever - it doesn’t really matter.

You would increase your chances by removing the bands/boxes. This would also make the shipping box smaller and lighter. 100 Cigars is considered a commercial quantity, if you get a stickler for the rules they might ask you for your license to import these. Country of origin: Spain. Don't send the boxes from the same PO and do it a week apart so they don't arrive together. Send them to different addys if you can. Use the plainest packaging you can, with little graphics or item description(s). Also that the box doesn't have HAZMAT labeling, aerosol notes, etc. John
